(Hope you don't mind if I put my initial post here. I got more to say than just Hi and I know I for one only occasionally go to the welcome forum.

I'm big on movies, and I'm not ashamed to say that I think Hollywood and Hollywood associated companies put out a large segment of the best movies, but not all--re: Focus Features for starters. IMNTBHO, movies have never been better in just about any category you care to name. And it is the greatest art form ever.
Gotta mention this years awards competitions. I've seen probably close to 10,000 movies and have only considered 17 of them, so far, to be masterpieces (10/10), two of them from the end of this year: Life of Pi and Zero Dark Thirty, art vs. grit. Both, amazingly, appear to be getting the recognition they deserve.
Less recognized movies I'd like to plug:
Detachment, Shuffle, Black Snake Moan, Undisputed, Get Low & Mao's Last Dancer
