In the aftermath of AvX Cap and Stark decide they need a poster-boy to represent mutants and give them a better image in society. Sure, they has Havoc as one of their guys, but what they are really after is basically the mutant equivalent of Captain America.

They want a mutant who is seen as trustworthy, law-abiding, ready to fight the good fight and not give up. Someone seen as willing to protect the public and do the right thing. Someone who is seen as a true hero. Power levels don't matter.

They start looking through the mutant files for potential candidates.

Who would get the job?

Maybe Storm, unlike many of the potential ones like Jean, Cable etc she has not caused a real disaster yet. (Has she?)

Beast, but he is too full of fail when out of the lab.

James Proudstar? He`d have to stop calling himself Warpath.

Mutants are an odd bunch...

None have measured up to Cap's infallible nobility. Including Cyclops....who personally was the mutant equivalent until bad writers got their dirty mitts on him.

Jean is a good choice if she was still alive and didn't undergo heavy possession and manipulation.

I can't think of a single mutant with the character, integrity and resolve to represent the mutant race under such circumstances.
Havok is the closest.

KingD19
Cannonball could be a good representative.

And even though writers did him wrong, people seem to forget that it was the Avengers who came to Utopia with the entire Avengers roster ready to fight.

It was the Avengers who tried to steal Hope with this Phoenix business, when they were nowhere around when the Phoenix was only threatening mutants.

It was Tony Stark who caused the Phoenix 5 to exist in the first place.

It was common knowledge that 4 of the 5 had no psychic abilities or way to control it.

It was the Avengers that attacked first when the P5 at first wanted nothing but world peace and to make the world a better place.

Beast IMO
He is well respected within the scientific and political community's, also well known to not be one of the 'bad ones'
That and he is a blue monkey, The children will love him.

KingD19
Beast can't be a good Cap imo. He's been an azzhole for several years now and a massive hypocrite. He's vindictive, mean, and will hold a grudge against anyone he doesn't agree with.

For example, he's mad at Cyclops for having X-Force going around killing people. Then Wolverine takes X-Force over, and is waaaay worse, and he's just fine with that.

He's mad at Cyclops for giving the X-Students the opportunity to fight for their home if they so chose during Fear Itself, and so does Wolverine for Scott using the kids as an "army".(I believe that was the arc). But Wolverine makes his own school, and literally threatens someone before they make it to the door with all the kids in his school. Beast doesn't care.

When Cyclops(under the control of the Dark Phoenix) killed Xavier, Beast wanted him to hurt for it.

Beast is too Vendetta driven to be a Cap. P.S. he's more a cat than a monkey at this point.

Because of the Avengers stupidity and Iron Man thinking he could "beat" the PF with his tech.
Scott is the best mutant spokesman, phuck Captain America.

True enough, but the general population in marvel are buttholes and won`t see it that way.

I hate to say this because I know the reaction it will get, but Piotr would be a great character for this, as much as he in the past is always "searching for meaning" or some b.s. like that.

This would give the character some purpose other than "Big Steel Russian guy who pummels or picks up things"
