Present time in MU. Out of nowhere Captain America "comes out of the closet" and announces he's gay.
1) how would the MU react?
2) how would we (readers, fans, media etc.) react?

LMAO! That's a hell of a question actually. With b-listers, it's not as big a deal. But to make an A list character gay? That'd take some balls. Can't see it happening without it seeming extremely contrived. I imagine that It'd be met with the same sort of derision as replacing 616 Nick Fury with the black Nick Fury of the films. Fans typically hate contrivance. Cap suddenly "coming out of the closet" would be looked at in that same light I'm sure.

I don't like when they change the sexual orientations of established characters for no reason with no prior foreshadowing.

If it was an alternate version they were just introducing whatever.

He'd be more relatable.

Ppl will no doubt look at him having a boy sidekick in short shorts in a different light.

He'd probably be treated like Batman is in DC.

The media would have a field day, probably.

Sales would fall briefly.

In the end, the character would probably still be profitable, but a lot of people would be alienated, tbh

It's not like they've ever done anything with his sexuality beyond giving him some bland, generic love interest.
