Only people that stay the **** dead should be taken in account.

DC : Supergirl (Crisis on Infinite Earth's).

Marvel : Jean Grey (Dark Phoenix Saga).

Flyattractor
LOBO being pulled apart by super powered monster tractors.

Golgo13
Barry Allen.

Uriel005
Ultimate Spidey brought a manly tear to my eye as the cover of Ben coming to take Peter "home."

Also death of superman had to be the most memorable and iconic death especially at the time when an icon like that just wasn't killed off.

Mindset
Bart Allen

Galan007
Uncle Ben
Thomas and Martha Wayne
All-Star Superman

But the death that really cut to the core of me was Krypto's sacrificial death in AC #583, canonicity be damned.

abhilegend
Barry Allen.

So many people are spelling Bart wrong.

Yup. Krypto's death was so sad.

deathslash
Barry, Mar-vell, and Superman had some very memorable and sad deaths.
I'm a little suprised that noboy mentioned Blue Beetle. One of my favorite deaths is Ted Kord's. After discovering Checkmate's evil plans, nearly escaping, and being beaten to within an inch of his life by Omac, he still had the balls to tell Maxwell Lord to go to hell. Needless to say it brought a manly tear to my eyes

The OP says iconic. Therefore, we have a somewhat objective measure by which to judge.

Superman, Barry, and Mar-vell are the only ones that truly lived on in the consciousness of fans. Hell, Superman's death made the news. Like, they talked about it in local newspapers across the country. In terms of transcending the medium, it's hard to top that.

So: Superman >>>>>>>> Barry/Mar-vell >>>>>>>>>>> Supergirl (for the pose) > everyone else.

There have been a lot of memorable deaths. But none scratch the surface of those I listed. Cap in Earth X is a personal favorite (Cap in 616 was a joke). But even that is far too niche to be considered iconic.

Nova Prime & Starlord

Most of this deaths while might not look very brutal are are very iconic if you have followed those series, but like Digi said:

Yeah, because the vin smilie clearly implied you thought you weren't ruining anything for anyone.

W/e. Just realize the careful ground that treads on. I mean, it takes all of about 5 seconds to type in the spoiler tags, if nothing else.

Eh. Black Panthers as well as everyones death in AoU was melodramatic due to the overall pacing issues of the entire series. I was angry at taskmasters death though only because Rulk killed him and I don't like rulk that much.

MoS Zod would be my pick, if this extended to all media. Simply terrible, as a character, badly written, badly acted, badly plotted and badly killed.

Baring that, Peter Parker, because he made way for arachnida superior.
