I tried looking for an existing thread, but didn't find one. I blame our shitty search engine. FYI, I know that there is an existing thread in the Comic Book Movies forum, but not everyone goes there so I'm making one for here.

This movie is either going to be hilariously good, or mind numbingly bad.

What do you think?

It looks very badass. Maybe one of the best MCU films yet, the tone is pretty different but I think it will be great.

wakkawakkawakka
I'm not impressed but that's mostly due to me never giving a shit about the Guardians of the Galaxy. I do hope I'm proven wrong when the actual flick comes out. On the bright side if Marvel can pull this off, they will have the cred they need to do anything with the B and C list heroes on the big screen

Esau Cairn
It's not so much the visuals but the choice of music/songs that had me cringing.

After the serious tone of Avengers, it feels that Marvel's using this movie to cater to a younger audience....I'm not saying that's bad but I won't be walking out the cinemas with that "wow" feeling I got after watching The Avengers for the first time.

Yeah, I agree. I mean, I think the movie shouldn't take itself too seriously, obviously, but I prefer an orchestral OST. Would have had a better impact for the trailer, I think. But I know nothing about GotG.. I just hope it's fun.

jaden101
Looks like it's aiming for the fast witty humour that Avengers had and missing by a long way. I think this is going to be a lesson in the difference between using a good director and a bad one.

Patient_Leech
^ Yeah, I was thinking the same thing, but I'm trying to be optimistic. He doesn't exactly have an established resume. Slither I've seen, and I had mixed feelings about it. It was sort of a horror/comedy. This looks like an action/adventure comedy. But you know, I thought Zack Snider's Dawn of the Dead was really bad, but he's turned out to be pretty good with these bigger action-adventure comic films (aside from Sucker Punch). So this may be a good fit for this director... who knows. He's obviously gonna be doing his best to prove himself.

first trailer was shit... none of these characters seem interesting

i liked the guardians when starhawk was a member though

Firefly218
On second watch the trailer isn't horrible. I guess I just had unreasonably high expectations.

BlackZero30x
I cant say im Avengers level of excited but I will be seeing this.

ares834
My biggest worry is that James Gunn is the director. I've only seen two of his films (Slither and Super) but I thought both were trash.

Still, I'm really looking forward to this. Looks far more interesting than the typical super hero fare.

Yeah, I was skeptical about another wrestler turned actor (since Dwayne Johnson is good, and Triple H was awful), but Batista was good in Riddick. Fit the part well and even delivered some of the film's humorous lines. He's very dry, so it's not like he's shown off major acting chops (yet at least), but he seems good in sort of subdued roles. I'll have to check out Man with the Iron Fists. I didn't realize he was in that. I heard it was a bad movie, but perhaps it has some redeeming qualities?

Was Aether a infinity stone?

My guess is:

Tesseract: Mind Gem

Aether: Power Gem

Maybe this one will be the Space Gem.

Firefly218
it's possible the aether was the Reality Gem, as it could recreate reality with the right set of circumstances.

I think the gem in guardians is either the power gem or the time gem

the mind gem is on Loki's staff

the space gem is probably the tessaract

Well Marvel has movies planed out for like another decade and prolly another one after that, so if these infinity stones keep being revealed, its a good possibility.

And with CG getting better and better to represent comic book feats, marvel racking in the dough from these movies, it could be possible.

Marvel revealing Thanos is enough for me to know they have something on the back burner thats huge.

I personally can't wait for this.

As for the Stones...

Well, the Tesseract is supposed to be the Space Stone. Not sure which one the Aether is supposed to be. Considering what it was doing to earth, maybe the Reality one?

But the one featured in Guardians is going to be the Power Stone:

The Tesseract is the Space gem and the Aether is the Power gem.

I'm still on the fence about whether or not Loki's staff housed the Mind gem. It just doesn't seem logical for such a precious and infinitely powerful gem to be so casually used, and having to make contact to utilize it. If Loki had the actual Mind gem, he could mind rape every single being in the universe while taking a shit on the toilet.

With Watchmen the soundtrack was supposed to be contrapuntal to a degree. As in the music playing kind of contrasts or contradicts the emotions being visually depicted.

Almost like showing Holocaust footage and using "What a Wonderful World", by Louis Armstrong, as a soundtrack.

His age is irrelevant.
I'm just trying to figure out the timeline...if the music is based on Quill's memories then how far after the 80's is the film supposed to be set in?

Does it correspond with The Avengers timeline?

KingD19
All of the Marvel movies have been happening around the same time except for the first Captain America. Everything else has been in current time and events have overlapped. So he was probably born in the early 80's, and is now in space in current time. Even Thanos and the Collector show up, both of whom made cameos in Avengers and Thor 2.

feige and wheadon have said that was just an easter egg, and in a recent interview I think feige said he wished that easter egg would have not been shone because it confused things.

with that said. Tesseract most likely is the space gem. Aether (was thought to be power gem) is now most likely the reality gem. the one in the guardians movie is the power gem. Loki's scepter that Thanos gave him is probably the mind gem. I hear rumors that the time gem may be featured in age of ultron. that leaves the soul gem and i think that will be introduced and connected to adam warlock whenever he is introduced.

Also just cause the gems dont look like gems like the comics they may have another way they will power the gauntlet.

Well if they are gonna go a movie with the IG it seems like it would make the most sense if that actually was the infinity gauntlet, unless the collector is collecting the gems for him and going to present them to Thanos or he comes in and takes them by force. Other then that, seems he would have to go to Asgard and grab them or somehow trick Loki into getting them for him which I highly doubt Loki can be tricked.

Collector is collecting them thats for sure. If its for his own purpose of for Thanos , I dont know.
About Loki: remember in Avengers that "the other" told loki that if he ****s up, that there is no where in the universe he can hide from thanos? Also Loki is working for Thanos. thats why Thanos gives him the scepter in the first place. Even if Loki is not happy working for him or has his own motives , the fact remains he is working for Thanos non the less.

If Thanos decides to claim the "gem" that is on Asgard im pretty sure Loki would have to hand it over to Thanos, especially if Thanos already has a few gems in his collection or he would stomp his ass beat. Loki knows what Thanos is capable of. Or else he would not be working under him since Avengers.

Marvel eff'd up with that crapfest AoS tv show. They could have made a SHIELD movie that featured the Kree, introduced a whole host of ACTUAL SHIELD agents (including Taskmaster), introduce Mar-Vell (maybe even Nova), have Carol and Hill be the focus and have Carol become Captain Marvel in the middle of or at the end of the movie. The sequel could've been SWORD, which has another strong female lead character.

but no, instead they're likely to give us a Black Widow solo movie. gross.

Inhuman
I still dont get why people expected Agents of shield to be filled with super heroes.
It was never advertized that way and even the title says it all "AGENTS OF SHIELD". I dont know why people expected "Marvel Heroes" from a title like agents of shield.
The show is not at fault for people own misinterpretation.
It is basically a show about coulson and his team in the marvel universe dealing with small time stuff. It features on occasion minor Marvel characters and the occasional super powered person. With hints of the bigger MCU from time to time.
Thats it.

anyhow , show started off weak but got real good towards the end.

Thats why its not fair to compare AOS to a show like Arrow because Arrow features an actual Hero as the main character.

marwash22
errrr, if they didn't want expectations, they shouldn't have tied it the cinematic universe and named it Agents of SHIELD. They should have named that bullsh!t "Coulson and co.", because Agents of SHIELD, with no actual Agents of SHIELD from the comics is false advertising.

it's multiple levels down in quality from any of the movies; it's like a fanmade sequel to a blockbuster movie. Awful.

That excuse is just getting old. Very few people actually expected to see superheros.

AoS sucked because of mediocre writing, mediocre acting and mediocre plots. An interesting, well written SHIELD show would have had far far less complaints.

The surprising plot twist in the last 5 episodes doesn't make up for a crappy season.

Pro Tip: a lot of show start off shitty then get better.

I know. I'm just saying, fans of AoS can stop using the excuse that everyone else was expecting superheroes. The disappointment attributed with AoS has very little to do with the absence of Iron Man.

I saw every episode live, and I'll say they were poorly written and poorly acted. Almost as if the writers were just ****ing around buying time until Captain America 2 came out.

I will say though, the direction and acting drastically improved after Cap 2 came out. Writing/dialogue was still mediocre, but story was more interesting.

I agree with this.
After the hydra reveal , then show improved alot.

That excuse is just getting old. Very few people actually expected to see superheros.

AoS sucked because of mediocre writing, mediocre acting and mediocre plots. An interesting, well written SHIELD show would have had far far less complaints.

Would you say that is when it came into its own both commercially and artistically?

Was there any point in specifying your gf's age?

Ah...that makes sense.

Solid movie. FYI, don't expect much from the end credit scenes. I was very disappointed.

loved it. they killed ppl pretty brutally for a marvel movie. glad to see they aren't afraid to do things like that. thanos was a little weird looking but still came off imposing. loved the "blink and u miss" dark elf and chitauri cameos.

You are not gonna see it? It isnt really an after credit scene to me because it happens almost instantly after the film is over. Actually the film may have not even been over yet erm

well besides the howard the duck one that you have to wait for, the other one (that technically isnt an after the credit scene) because it literally happens at the last part of the movie.

I dont even know if thats an after the credit scene. this movie may have only 1 after credit scene.

That'll never happen, they're heros', man. Life doesn't lose, dude!

movie was great.

Anyone else surprised by Bautista? I thought he was going to be a big glaring weak point in the film, but he ended up doing great.

Lestov16
where would this rank amongst the other "Phase 2" films?

ares834
Behind Cap 2. But better than the rest.

Lestov16
Well it's not hard to be better than IM3. I'll take it this wasn't as good as Avengers?

ares834
I think it's close. But that is partially due to the fact that I find that Avengers doesn't hold that well on repeat viewings. The sense of awe and excitement I felt while watching GotG ultimately paled in comparison to the first time I saw Avengers.

I was also worried about him especially after watching him in the new riddick movie.

It wasn't that he was bad in it he just didn't seem to really to bring anything exciting to the role he played.

Saw it last night, it's amazing. Better than Cap 2 imo.
