In the DCU, to the average mook, Batman is scary because (despite being in the JLA) he's got an urban legend/creature of the night reputation. He's a mysterious unknown entity.

In the MU, to the average mook, Punisher is scary because he is a known entity. Everyone knows who he is, what he does, and why.

The questions here are:

Who do you think inspires more fear in street level criminals, in universe?

Do you think either of these characters inspire fear in their respective superhuman communities? Respect? Neither?

Who do YOU personally think is scarier, as a character?

1. Batman, because whilst Punisher kills, Batman is seen as a vampire monster by some. Punisher is just a man with guns, to the villain community.

2. Fear and respect for Batman. To the point the Yellow Lanterns recognise this ability to inspire great fear. Respect because Batman is always seen as the man with the plan. Whereas it seems Frank is seen as a nutter in Marvel.

3. Punisher.
