Why did Sidious' lightning kill Vader?

In TFU II Vader tanked Starkillers' lightning for a very long time, and he was perfectly fine after the assault (dark side ending).

Did Vader die to Sidious' lightning because he wanted to die?

Sidious Lightning >>>> Starkillers lightning

Vader already had a missing hand, so the voltage was going into his systems more directly. He wasn't sparing effort for defense. Sidious's lightning was stronger. TFU goes over-the-top with everything. Take your pick.

All of the above.

I don't think that Darth Vader is immune to effects of Force lightning. Galen Marek did overload the defenses of Darth Vader's armor with his lightning at one point.

Darth Sidious is superior master of the dark side then Galen Marek so the former is more specialized and effective in matters of offensive applications of the dark side accordingly.

Because TFU II was awful.

DARTH POWER
Because TFU isn't Canon. It's Legends Suckaaaaas

Emperordmb
Yeah... basically because Sidious's lightning is more powerful, easily within the top three Sith practitioners of force lightning, while Starkiller is not.

NewGuy01
Top 3? Yeah, if we're including the Son.

I wasn't including the Son, hence "Sith practitioners."

You could make a case for Vader wanting to die, but even if he didn't, Vader already knew Sidious could fry him anyway.

That's a good point. Never thought of that, too easy to overlook.

S_W_LeGenD
Vader's missing hand isn't such a big deal, it was not as if Sidious directly bombarded Vader with lightning, Sidious was not in this position. Vader picked Sidious from behind which led to some of the latter's lightning bolts hitting Vader erratically and this was enough.

In a normal setting in which Vader is fine and Sidious unleashes his barrage of lightning on Vader in proper manner, I don't think that Vader can last.

Emperordmb
He had a missing hand against Starkiller as well, so that's not really an answer.

Not in TFU II when he tanked all the Lightning from him.

Honestly these are just a tiny fraction of the inconsistencies we'd get from the previous EU. Which is why the EU has been revamped.

Vader is again susceptible to FL in the new canon (without catching it in a Lightsaber) as far as we know.

No Starkiller cut off his hand.
