I mean, going by what we see in seasons 3 & 4, Gabriel Gray wasn't really evil within by himself. It's the power he has. He has this hunger to kill, & this power basically made him insane. And in season 4, he asks Matt to take his powers away because he views them as a curse.

However, in season 2 he didn't have powers to begin with, but still went to see Mohinder Suresh to get his powers back. He was still obviously a killer without them at that point. But if it was his power alone that made him so insane, why did he want his powers back? Wouldn't he have probably changed now that the power has gone? i just don't get it?

Did you watch the show until the end of the final season? You come to find out it wasn't JUST his powers that made him kill. You see a flashback with HRG and Elle and they essentially goad him into killing and taking more powers. He was resisting, he didn't want it, but they went and brought a super powered person to him and then goaded him until he did it.

For season 2, he still felt that hunger for power..but now he could not sate that hunger, which is why he still wanted his powers back. Or if you did want to go with the explanation that having powers is what made him evil..it's completely possible that even once you took the powers away...the damage they'd done to him was permanent.

Also because from season 2 onwards nothing makes much sense or has much consistency.
