Wolverine death after Magneto ripped the adamantium from his body though not sure if he actually died but he might have wished he died.

Barry Allen, hands down for the most memorable, epic death in comics.

"Time to save the universe."

Most badass would be Skurge's death in Thor 362.

The family Red skull killed in Ultimate Avengers.

Cant be arsed to scan, basically a wife , a husband and a baby taken hostage, red skull tells wife to stab husband to death with scissors or he drops the baby out the window. Wife does it, Red Skull drops baby out the window, then henchmen proceed to rape the wife all night and then kill her.

Only one page in the book, but ****ing dark and sad shit.

I'd say Ares's death was pretty memorable. Died in battle like a God of War would.

Always liked Captain Marvells death with everyone stood around paying their respects.

Ares had a terrible death no expression

Thor had a good death at the end of v2.

Skurge's death has to be one of the more memorable ones in comics tho.

Him and Barry Allen were some of the greatest.

Was retconned being the actual Phoenix Force creating a perfect copy of Jean Grey while the real Jean Grey was healing somewhere(HOTMU).

Only one page in the book, but ****ing dark and sad shit. If it makes you feel better, the wife is revealed to have survived. She was the Insect Queen during the Liberators invasion and she joined Fury's Black Ops squad as the reformed Red Wasp. In the aftermath of the Ultimate Red Skull story when he lies bedridden and helpless, she comes in and shoots him in the head.

As I was reading, I thought "why would that make ANYONE feel better?" Then I got to the end. Nice.

Konton
Not explicitly a death, as she didn't end up dying, but Kitty Pryde's at the time supposed death in the giant bullet at the tail end of Astonishing X-Men was very well executed and really got to me. The artistic depiction of her determination and pain juxtaposed to Emma's very real and rarely depicted sorrow was nothing short of "astonishing."

Yeah, but at the time it was a big deal, but your right.

Cap's death in the Earth X series, as he protects Marvell. It may have sullied with age some, but at the time, that one held more resonance with me than nearly any other death I'd read.

I'm sure I could come up with others, but it's late. I'll give it some thought.

ODG
I think everyone is starting to hit on a common note here: the death can't be cheapened by subsequent retcons.

And the Gwen Stacy and Jean Grey deaths unfortunately suffer from retcons.

I was thinking about Uncle Ben as it's very much a Greek tragedy in pulp comic form. But when you read Amazing Fantasy #15, it's off-panel and it isn't very well-foreshadowed or milked at all. I don't know if there's ever been a definitive re-telling of Uncle Ben's death.

For recent ones, I'ma go with my sig:

She WAS brought up. On a web line. With a broken neck.

I'm going to hell for that one.

This is the WORST death in the history of comics!

Captain America, killed by MUTANT WEREWOLVES!!!

You disgust me!

I'd say Barry Allen but that really wasn't a death.

riv6672
Because he came back, or some other reason?

Flyattractor
For most BADASS. LOBO. In one issue he commited suicide TWICE just to go kick a dead guy in the nuts because he needed info off the guy and also because he had PISSED him off.

More than once, yeah. The most clear-cut example was in IH #422, when the Hoarfen (offspring of the Fenris Wolf and a Frost Giant) killed and ate the Merged Hulk; he actually ended up in the afterlife in that one.

Cheers.

Can we include tv toons? If so...

"In the end, the world didn't need a superman. Just a brave one."

Damn that always brings a tear to my eye.

Star428
Not sure about the most badass but the saddest death was Superman's, by far. The fact that the light of the DC universe was gone for a whole year made it even sadder.

Spider-man when killed by Morlun was pretty badass. They've been building up to it for several issues.

Also Logan's recent death. Haven't actually read it but the whole adamantium statue at sunset is pretty memorable.

His almost-death in "the logan files" was way better imo.

the adamantium statue was cheesy as shit, though the bit with his memories was really good.

I actually liked their fight(s) under Straczynski's pen better.

Ripping the eye out was cool, but the rest was just the usual beating-to-death that should happen to Parker every day and twice on sundays.

The Waynes death hands down

created the greatest character in comics, is still felt by said character to this day and most important it hasnt been retconned or anything dumb like that in 75 years

It's a rather thin plot. The murder just sorta happens. But it was written for kids. I would tend to rank Uncle Ben's death above this solely on the basis that you at least got to see how loving Uncle Ben was... in like, two panels? Bought him a microscope or something.

Also Joe Chill has been retconned so many times I think it detracts more than adds. They just can't figure out what they want to do with him.

Val Armor's is up there.

But nothing beats Tommy Monaghan's. Guy went out like a man, rushing down an army just so he can headshot the guy that was hounding him, and threatening his woman. Got the job done, and then he died.

Although Nat sticking by his friend when he knew he was gonna die comes close.

Shit, I forgot about Hitman. What a great end to a great character.

Another great death was Human Torch in FF 587. "A billion to one? You think I'm afraid? FLAME ON!"

Aunt May dying in ASM 400. Supergirl dying in COIE.

iceman24567
thumb up Torch going ham in the negative zone was epic

deathslash
Blue Beatle's death was also pretty good. Even when the rest of the justice league considers him to be a joke, with his best friend critically wounded, and no one available to provide backup, he still went headfirst into checkmate's headquarters, uncovered an incredibly insidious plot against every superhero in to world, nearly escaped and when he was given the option to join them or die he tells the guy holding the gun to go to hell.
