Could Base Trunks beat FIC? Or was SSJ absolutely necessary to win?

Depends where you think Cell stacked up next to Freeza at the time, because base Trunks would have been significantly below Freeza.

why is this even a debate?......Trunks loses.....

Trunks and Vegeta only got around 4 or 5 times stronger when they went into the ROSAT.

Without SSJ, Trunks would have been squished by Android 18, let alone 17 or Cell.
