Barry.

By portrayal he is THE Flash.

Also his feat in Superman: Grounded is better than any Wally feat I'm aware of.

Over the span of one Septosecond, which is 0.000000000000000000001 seconds, he tuned every radio on Earth.

There are 150,000,000 square kilometers of land on Earth. Light travels about 300,000 kilometers per second. To cover 150,000,000 kilometers, it would take light 500 seconds. For simplicity's sake, if you assume there is 1 radio for every square kilometer on earth (that is lowballing it greatly), that means he was traveling 500,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 times faster than light, or 500 septillion.

Understand that I am greatly, greatly lowballing this feat as it doesn't take into account the time it takes him to tune every radio, the accurate density of radios per square kilometer (much higher than my guess, i just used mine to make the multiplication and division easier), radios that aren't on land (such as every boat on the planet that has a radio) or the time it takes him to search the square of every kilometer -- if he had to search every square inch then it'd be 500 septillion squared, or 250,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,00
0,000,000,000 which is 250 Quattuordecillion times the speed of light

This is why I laugh whenever people try to act like post crisis Superman had speed to rival the Flash.

Pretty sure he was amped...

Surtur
He wasn't amped when he evacuated half a million people from a city in a split second.

Sure.. Totally different subject from my post, but ok. Iirc he went near light travel in that scene.

Sorry to burst your bubble but he was amped on the speed of every being on Earth including Superman and the rest of the Flash family.

And another Speedster from 5th dimension. Originally posted by Surtur

Nothing compared to what silver age Barry Allen has done.

A third reading, is that he was both faster and slower than the speed of light.

We know the Flash carried the Koreans at 'a hair breadth's short of the speed of light'.

But when he's running BACK into the city, empty handed, without anyone in his arms and when's he's not having to worry about civilians..he's running faster.

So, rather than assuming a constant speed (the speed that he carried them there = the speed he runs back into the city), he probably took a bit more care+time when he was carrying a little old Korean lady, than ramping it up to max gear when he's on his own.

Also:

He's making two trips, of 35 miles each (assuming the city is concentrated in 1 spot - this is grossly underestimating, as Chongjin is 104 square miles;http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chongjin). This would be for every rescue.

My reading was that he carried them under the speed of light, but when running back into the city, was vastly over.

Maybe..
There really is no reason for him to drastically slow down when carrying innocents since you know speed force, but maybe your right.

The alternative is that both statements are true, and people start arguing for 78 pages (He was UNDER the speed of light! No, he was (*insert calculation*) seventy five quadrillion times the speed of light! Etc etc.

That feat just shows how sometimes comic writers have no sense of scale, since yep..he'd need to be going far in excess of the speed of light to pull that off. You'd need to be hilariously above lightspeed to do that.

ghostman
wally still has better feats than the ones i posted, wally> barry

Surtur
I even remember on some website someone actually tried to calculate how fast you'd need to go to do the nuke feat and they gave up once they getting in upwards of billions of times the speed of light.

It's like how in the movie "Prometheus" a character makes a comment about how they've come "half a billion miles from earth". Which of course would only actually put you around Jupiter and not in another galaxy.

Pretty much. But then, I don't read comics for scientific veracity.

Yeah, but I think when the narration blatantly contradicts what is being shown..I think what is being actually shown takes precedence.

It's one thing when the narration is vague, but when it's not even in the same solar system as far as being accurate then I think we just assume "oh that is lightspeed" is the way a 10 yr. old boy who doesn't know any better would react to this.

Ah, but that is the beauty of DarkSaint - it is not contradictory.

The full statement is 'they were CARRIED there, at a hair breadth's short of lightspeed'. Not vague - it specifically says they were carried there at that speed. Which I 100% agree with.
