I don't know much about him outside of that crossover, and the animated movie. But he stopped Barry with a mind whammy.. J'ohn totally could have done that, if they were fighting. Through raw telepathy vs telekinesis, but still..

As far as the Tangent Superman goes, he'd need to be pretty powerful to overcome him in telepathy... Martian Manhunter is one of the most powerful herald level telepaths in comics.

And telekinetically messing with his insides/brain functions is a hard sell against a shape shifter of his level. The man moved his soul into his hand, for gods sake.
