in comic book terms when a character destroys or alters a timeline somehow what does that make them? universal? multiversal? planetary? are timelines just different universes?

Well anybody with time traveling abilities could alter time which there are different levels of characters that can do that. Someone destroying a timeline would take at least Universally powerful character.

Stoic
It would depend on the character's power set or power rating. Let's say that a character had the ability to remain undetected, while also being able to time travel, they could change certain events by alerting key characters to danger, and therefore alter a timeline. This does not mean that they are universe busters, but instead that they have certain powers at their disposal to alter events.

nooo, i dont mean altering a timeline through time travel, like just downright altering it with whatever raw power they have DIRECTLY or destroying it.

golem370
In that case imo only Universal or higher beings could do that.

HOW DO MAGNETS WORK????

Astner
A time-line is the most rudimentary form of a universe, it has a set past and a set future.

The only way to alter a timeline is to travel to the past or see into the future (look at later parts of the timeline). Once this is done the old timeline is destroyed and a new one is created.

^ I think that the question is how powerful would one need to be in order to (physically, mentally, magically, spiritually, etc...) alter an entire timeline. Once you figure that out, place that character within a power tier.

Surtur
I would say planetary level reality warping at the very least would be needed for the kind of manipulation you are talking about.

Plus what is a timeline? In DC you have different dimensions where time runs differently.
