this looks very interesting... will watch

American Gods is one of my favorite books. As such, I've been caustically optimistic. But this trailer exceeded all my expectations! It looks great.

marwash22
really looking forward to this

marwash22
this Sunday! smile

Dreampanther
Getting great reviews from those that have been fortunate enough to see some of it. Can't wait!

Surtur
Looking forward to it. Glad they made it a series and didn't do something dumb and try to make it a film.

Dreampanther
That. Was. AWESOME.

Robtard
Enjoyed it enough to watch next week's ep, despite it seeming a bit scattered and the wife's friend being a terrible actress in the graveyard scene. Intro Viking scene was great/funny.

The premise is definitely the selling point: Old gods vs new gods. Might just have to read the book if the next ep or two turn out to be great.

BruceSkywalker
have first ep on dvr, will watch soon

Surtur
I thought the first episode was good. Having read the book I thought some parts might not translate to tv very well, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Dreampanther
Orlando Jones killed it in his scene. Might be the best role I've ever seen him play.

ares834
Now that was one hell of an episode.

BruceSkywalker
first two shows have been trippy.. I like it a lot... can't wait to watch next week

marwash22
i'm very impressed by and enthralled with this show; it's visually mesmerizing and thematically daring.

I can't recall ever seeing passionate gay sex featuring brown people on television.

my only complaint so far is the disjointed nature of the storytelling. I haven't been bored by anything, but the (seemingly) unrelated side-stories are annoying... annoying, because I'd like to see more of those characters, not just 5 minute vignettes.

Dreampanther
Damn. Don't mess with Laura.

carthage
Seeing Scully as Marilyn Monroe was amazing

marwash22
her as Ziggy Stardust was even better. Lucille Ball was great as well.

Gillian is really loving this role. She's killing it.

KingD19
Finale was insane. Well the whole season really, but to see the true scope of the Gods power when they're sufficiently worshiped/motivated is crazy.

samhain
Was that the finale? Will have to change my opinion of the series if that was the case, because as good as the episode was it was in no way a fitting finale.

KingD19
Yeah the Jesus/Easter episode was the finale.

I think it was a pretty decent one. Right at the height of one of Odin's biggest victories so far, Laura shows up who can mess up his entire plan just by talking to Shadow for five minutes. And we're shown just how powerful the Gods actually are.

Robtard
On season 2:

American Gods season 2 will be longer and "a little different" - with a faster pace

"Shadow will have a much more exciting arc in season 2 than he did in season 1."

Link

Odin calling down lightning was a bit surprising, I assumed he was much weaker due to a lack of worshippers.

KingD19
I think he probably got a decent supercharge in killing Vulcan and dedicating it to himself. Plus plenty of nordic folk still worship Odin. Not to the extent of the old times but enough that he's not forgotten.

Just goes to show that even weakened, the head of the pantheon is there at the top for a reason.

carthage
Was hoping for a larger confrontation with the New Gods, but the episode was sti good.

Arachnid1
This is a pretty mediocre show so far. So much build up and filler for nothing.

BruceSkywalker
t'was a little disappointed with the season finale, but overall I enjoyed the 1st season

Scythe
Best show to watch when relatives walk in.

"What are you watching.....?"

"Oh, just middle eastern soft-core gay porn, you know, the usual."

Pretty alright season though, I wasn't fussed that that's the season finale we got. Just surprised at the low episode count. Looking forward to season 2.

Shadow's convo with White Jesus and the white buffalo telling him to believe likely gave Odin some "juice", as Technical Boy calls it.

the one thing i wonder about is, why Odin isn't more powerful seeing as there have been large scale wars taking place for the better part of two decades. In the book it makes sense because it was written before 9/11 happened.

But this show takes place in modern day where we've had wars in Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Syria, various parts of Africa... among many others. Is it simply a matter of Odin not figuring out how to "franchise" war the way Vulcan did with bullets?

Does Odin's old way of worship require war to be waged specifically with "the swords, the hammers and knives and stone axes"?

marwash22
btw, how many people have read the book?

i don't want to spoil anything for those who haven't. Although, some of the future "twists" should be fairly obvious.

I can see that. Shadow already subconsciously believed in Odin enough to make it snow through an entire city.

And as far as I know, it's not that Odin couldn't figure out a way. It's that he didn't want to, and it seems only the New Gods are interested in a "brand new lemon-scented you". They're the ones who were born of branding, etc... and simply offer it to the Old Gods to win them over. The Old Gods seem to want/need the ancient forms of worship.

season 2 info

march 10th cannot get here quick enough

samhain
Cool, been waiting ages for this (feels like I should say no pun intended as Odin has had to bide his time too.) tried to read the book a couple of years ago but couldn't really get that far into it TBH.

staxamillion
yeah I just came off of reading asoiaf when I tried to get into this... same thing for me but i'll try again later

Surtur
Season two has begun, first ep aired Sunday. I am going to watch it later today.

Surtur
Off to a good start, sucks Gillian Anderson won't be on anymore.

Robtard
Watched in on Sunday, was decent; not great for a season starter. I really hope they do a lot of backstory and character building with the Leprechaun; he's the best character in this

Surtur
The last 20 minutes or so were pretty good I thought.

carthage
Loved the newest episode

Robtard
Was better than the first, liked that we got some more character development with Shadow. The train on the train was good too.

We need more of this for mad Sweeney and definitely more scenes with Mr. Nancy/Anansi. Two best characters on the show.

carthage
Storyline has been incredibly unfocused this season.

Surtur
Noooo RIP Mad Sweeney

One of the better characters, that scene was beyond terrible.

Surtur
It looked so clumsily shot.

Spoilers for season 2 will be in this post:

What did people think of season 2? The season finale aired a little over a week ago. It has already been renewed for a third season.

I enjoyed this season, though not as much as the first. Mad Sweeney died, but resurrection is clearly possible in this universe so who knows. You also find out Odin is Shadow's father.

Surtur
Season 3 began a few weeks ago. 3rd episode of the season was recently released. I'm enjoying this season so far.
