I appreciate the attempt to do something new, but finding those who are versed in both may be difficult. Case in point, I know basically everything about Drizzt but nothing about Elric. So I can't assess the fight.

Elric ranges from almost succumbing to his frailty and sickness to overpowering gods that partook in creation and lord over space, time and spirit.

Digi
Fair enough, but as this forum should have taught any of us, a sentence-long synopsis - hell, even a Wiki summary - isn't sufficient to really know a character with any degree of accuracy.

From that brief description, though, it sounds like this would be a tough fight to gauge anyway.

Astner
As the Eternal Champion he killed Agak and Gagak, two sorcerers from outside the Multiverse that devoured multiverses.

But that's from the novel The Eternal Champion. I'm not sure how powerful he is in the comics.

Speak for yourself noob

Astner
Even in the comics you have multiversal powers.

And yes, Elric actually does fight them.

You think comics and graphic novels published after the books take away from the source material?

Astner
Judging from the opening post and the forum it was posted in, I do think the opening poster is referring to the comic versions of the characters.

I've not read the comics. I just went through a couple of the issues from the Michael Moorcock's Multiverse series and stopped at pages that caught my eye.

But it seems that Elric is just as powerful as he needs to be in a given situation in the comics too.

StiltmanFTW
Remember how tough it was to beat Drizzt in the original BG?

Digi
Drizzt would most likely fall into the "low meta" category of KMC's tier system. He's easily peak human in physical stats (and likely > peak in reflexes), and he's got a handful of magical trinkets, minor spells (darkness globe) and weapons that push him into the meta category. He'd also give trouble to some in mid meta, though I wouldn't place him there. High meta would whup him senseless, though.

Again, though, while those are fun scans for Elric, I'm not taking a stance on the fight. Just offering my knowledge on Drizzt. But with words like "multiversal" being thrown around, it sounds like it could be fairly lopsided.

i don't know drizzt but elric was pretty beastly. his magic and his sword were serious plot devices. just going on your basic rank for drizzt, can't see any way he would win this.... elric was a strange character, but he was pretty damn powerful and stormbringer was a beast.

I'm just taking a leisurely gander at these comics, and just from the enemies Elric actually struggles with ranges from universe- to multiverse-level gods.

Universe level:

Stormbringer is one of the most overpowered, unfair swords in fiction.

Steals souls with a cut, vastly powering up the user, and can sentiently block/parry for the user. Can summon a swarm of sister swords to eviscerate anyone. Can counter/parry any magic spell/magic item.

This includes god level beings, such as the "lords of chaos" and the "lords of law".

The sword also happens to be:

1. Some kind of demon.

2. A manifestation of a central "black sword", which is far more evil then the gods that run around in-fighting.

Drizzt's good, but he has no answer to the black sword.

As if that isn't enough, Elric has a pact with Arioch, who himself can "nuke" any conventional threat. (And yet Arioch was among Lords who were defeated by Stormbringer, which is telling.)

been years since i read the elric stuff (novels and comics both). he was a dpressing f***** but he was beastly.

He lost everything and everyone he ever loved. And then watched his entire world "reset" as a "placeholder" creation, just before losing his soul to the black sword. Everything you read about simply didn't matter.

So yeah, pretty depressing. smile

Magnon
Elric wins this pretty convincingly; Stormbringer is on a whole different level than Drizzt's trinkets.

And then you and your group murder him just to get those 2 magical swords and his chainmail.

Poor Drow laughing out loud

Elric also possesses vast psionic powers as well. He was able to telepathically commune with Lord Arioch, despite the latter existing outside creation:

I'm curious, Galan. How would you compare Elric to say Dr. Strange?

Not only that, but once Elric regained the Swords of Chaos and Law, he was able to permanently end the battle between Gods -- and moreover, undo/balance the damage they had caused to all of creation:

Remove the Blades, and yeah, I'd probably put him around Strange's level.

Never read those comics. Just the novels.

They look different then the storie I've read, as Chaos and Law basically destroyed reality in their feud, and Elric used the last of his strength to sound a horn that "reset" reality, as he was fated to do.

Which meant his companion, Moonglum, needed to give Elric his soul, and threw himself on the blade.

After all that was done, poor Elric saw his sword fly in the air and impale him in the heart. wink

Well, i was going to put the characters in Superman and Thor's bodies to keep things status quo, but decided against it. wink

But really, all the responses made for a great read. Thank you all!
