ThunderMs
for me is
1- Dragon ball Z
2- Digimon
3- Shurato

Have some difficulty with these lists because lots of anime and their manga counterparts tend to mix together in my head. Of course, that wouldn't be a problem if anime was always true to its source material, but it's not. For example, I look fondly back on Rosario Vampire because the manga was enjoyable, but then remember its anime adaptation was trash...

Dragonball
Bleach
One Punch Man
dvampire
No it's not!
I'm going by what I'm watching now.
1. One piece
2. Hunter x hunter
3. Dragon ball super

Lol.
Scrubs.
1. Original Berserk Anime.
2. Clannad.
3. Gurren Lagann.
SSJGGogeta
Never seen Berserk, but Clannad and GL are weak-sauce.
1. DBZ.
2. Bleach(barring filler).
3. Seven deadly sins.

1. DBZ.
2. Bleach(barring filler).
3. Seven deadly sins. DBZ has a dumb story, Bleach has a good story for the first two arcs.
Never seen Seven deadly scenes.
So we're both 2-out-of-3.
I guess it depends more on what you like.
If you like action, or if you like Good Stories with action.

DBZ's anime in particular has aged extremely poorly. Bleach is just hamstrung by being an adaptation of the hot garbage that the Bleach manga is.
The DB manga is still pretty good though.
NemeBro
Oh, and:
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Cowboy Bebop
Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica
In any order really. I'd rank the second season of Fate/ZERO up there as well.
carthage
Cowboy Bebop
The Samurai X prequels (Trust, Betrayal)
Outlaw Star
Honorable mentions: Mobile Suit Gundam, Tenchi Universe, Trigun, and Samurai Champloo

Also, you didn't like the first few arcs of Bleach? I thought they were universally agreed on to be pretty good.

Terrible animes. Action is mediocre at best.
Ridley_Prime
Haven't seen enough Neon Genesis, but Cowboy Bebop? Madoka Magica? Those are terrible animes to you? Wow Carv.
I think the DBZ anime still holds up alright in terms of aging, but when I rewatched a bit of other shonen like Yu Yu Hakusho, oh boy... Now that had aged badly.
Saw Gurren Lagann, but thought it was overhyped/overrated.
With how many different genres of anime I've come to like over the years, it's pretty difficult for me to have a decisive top 3 list now. =(
NewGuy01
Surprised there's no mention of FMA, was under the impression that one was pretty universally held in high regard. Probably wouldn't make my top 3 either, admittedly, but neither would most of the others mentioned in this thread. :P

Precisely. It'd be much easier if it was "Top 3 ____ Anime."

Though with that said, the Mami vs. Homura fight in the Madoka movie is visually considerably more impressive than any DBZ fight.
Or any Dragonball Super fight for that matter. Which is horrible. One would think the new Dragonball anime would have at least passable animation.

Precisely. It'd be much easier if it was "Top 3 ____ Anime." The original or Brotherhood? I'm not a huge fan of the original, though I do like Brotherhood, even if it omitted some good scenes from the manga.

The first few arcs of Bleach were pretty good in the manga and I guess the anime (though the animation in the anime did get lazy at times). But the first few arcs do not make an anime. Bleach turned into a shitfest after the Soul Society arc.

With how many different genres of anime I've come to like over the years, it's pretty difficult for me to have a decisive top 3 list now. =( Carver is just butthurt because I shit on DBZ and Super especially. Super is literally garbage, this can't even be argued. It's a ****ing visual medium, the animation should at least be passable, and it's ****ing dog shit. And it's DRAGON BALL ****ING Z'S SEQUEL. This isn't some story some guy barely managed to get the funding for. It's pure ****ing laziness and greed. **** Dragon Ball Super.
The manga's art is pretty good, but I honestly don't read manga very much these days.
DBZ hasn't held up very well for me as an anime due largely to some of the boring filler, the overly long powerup and transformation sequences, and, ironically enough, the fight scenes.
A lot of fight scenes repeat the same few frames periodically throughout the fights. It's just not particularly visually stimulating, not when I've been ruined by incredibly well-animated fights like in ufotable's Fate animes.
I might have been a little too hard on it, but I'm not as fond of the anime as I was when I was a kid. The manga has aged very well though. Akira Toriyama is a very underrated artist.
Gurren Lagann is overrated in the sense that it's not the best anime ever (also I ****ing hate the ending), but it's not even close to bad. The pacing early on is a little slow though.
Galan007
The original Dragonball for me. To this day I still thoroughly enjoy most of the plots, and especially the fight sequences of the WMAT's -- they were just very well done, and really emphasized fighting technique and whatnot... Mind you, this was an age before Akira went crazy with "teh 'splosions and maxmum powalevells!!!!111!!" Back when quality storytelling was the prevailing force.
That said, I still do enjoy DBZ, but that's more of a nostalgia thing for me. I can certainly admit that lots of anime eclipses it all-around.

If action is what you need to decide a good anime or not, you're very shallow. Maybe reason you put DB Super above DBZ is because of universe-busting punch.
Back to topic, here's my personal top 3 :
1.) Gintama
2.) Berserk
3.) Hokuto no Ken

The ones where Ichigo kicks ass are usually the best.
In DBS, I can't even understand what the **** is going on.
On topic, what about Naruto?
Flyattractor
Cowboy Bebop
Fooly Cooly
Bleach (but only because of Kenphachi Zaraki)
Trocity
1. Death Note
2. Monster
3. FMA: Brotherhood
wakkawakkawakka
There are some pretty interesting choices on this list but for me its kind of hard to narrow down all the anime that I've seen to just a top 3. Though for a list I'd rank my personal top anime in no particular order that I find particularly outstanding:
1. Cowboy Bebop
2. Ghost in the Shell: Stand alone complex
3. Fate/Zero
Puella Magi Madoka Magika and Neon Genesis Evangelion are also high ranking as well.
Yamcha
I try to remember no matter what someone's opinion is, maybe that show that you think is god awful, just released a new episode and that's their one reason to smile at the end of the day.
No real order here.
"Dragon Ball Z" will always be tethered to my soul because not only was it the first show that really got me into anime, but during a low point in my life later on, Vegeta was actually who inspired me to not settle, to get healthy, and constantly start striving for self improvement even to this very day. That's why I really like Super, it just boosts my mood overall when I watch an episode because it's like the one's who were with me early on in life and with me as I grew, are back and they're continuing to grow as well, and something about that just puts me in a state of complete serenity, I feel just like a little kid again each episode, and I wouldn't trade that feeling for the world.
"Naruto" will always be one too, I know people will probably question this one so allow me some backstory. I started reading it when it first came out until the very end, that's a lot of years, a lot of memories. It was the first Manga I really got into when I would pick up Shounen Jumps, to the point I started ordering the Naruto volumes from my local comic store. Naruto was something I could abscond into when things got too real and came at a time not too long after my older brother passed away. I really grew to relate to Sasuke and liked him a lot, and he really helped get me through that rough period in my life, an for that I can't thank Kishimoto enough.
Tie between "Hajime No Ippo" and "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure", I love both of these so much that I can't pick between them, but sometimes you just want to watch a man who wants a quiet life, finger a sandwich with a ladies severed arm until it sauces everywhere, and JoJo gives you that opportunity.
Zack Fair
hard to say but right now I'd go with
FMA: Brotherhood
Fate Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works(series)
OPM

Whales
Fairy Tail
One Piece
DBZ
Dreampanther
Too many to choose from. I can more easily list my Top 3 per genre, like fantasy, sports, martial arts, RPG, etc.
So, just to pick one each from a genre:
* Hunter X Hunter (2011)
* Hajime no Ippo
* Shokugeki no Souma

Yeah, but those are basically non-existent post-SS.
What? DBS can be stupid, but it's not complicated.
I prefer it to Bleach and Dragonball, but it essentially has the same problems they do. Excessive filler and dragged on for way, way too long.
UCanShootMyNova
Hunter x Hunter, Inuyasha, Ouran.

Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica
Just watched this recently for the hype, but I was pretty disappointed tbh. Maybe it's because I went in expecting a rollercoaster, but I felt like almost none of the emotional notes it was trying to hit got through to me at all.
Like, for example, the tragic showdown between two best friends who... had known each other for a grand total of a couple hours or so, and been friendly for like... ten minutes of that. If you can't tell, I'm talking about Sakura and Sayaka; their mutual death scene was clearly trying to evoke emotion, but all I could think about was how bizarre and out of left field it was.
I felt like it was a story with a powerful beginning and end, but had no middle substance to make me care how it ended. It didn't spend any time endearing the main cast to the viewer. Visually and artistically I thought it was pretty fantastic (I especially loved how they abruptly changed the ED on episode 3,) but the story itself is almost forgettable to me. Why did it make your top 3?
Dark-Kenshin
Code Geass
JoJo's Bizarre Adventures
Trigun
Ridley_Prime
Just realized, this thread needs more Rurouni Kenshin. I guess for a top 3 in no particular order I'd have probably that, then perhaps Overlord or something, as it was confirmed recently to have a season 2 after all (thank God) which I expect to be every bit as good as S1 if not more, and the 3rd choice is still tough, but screw it, I suppose to play it safe and easy I'll go with an obligatory classic like Cowboy Bebop.
NewGuy01
Yeah, Overlord S2 will be dope. Chair & Operation Gehenna animated = life.
dika123
this list is f*cking short, back on the day i like these anime :
1.Naruto
2. DBZ
3. one piece.
dika123
naruto ------>>>> when Naruto is still teenager
Dragon ball ----->>>> when goku is mature but not the new one.
One piece ----->>>>>> ehhh i forget why i like this anime...
dika123
one punch man has a awesome fight. But not my favorite for some reason.
maybe if they change sataima' face more badass. Like Kratos maybe. And then i would change my mind.
cdtm
Cowboy Bebop
FLCL
Samurai Champloo
Really hard to pick just three. Want to put in Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato or Trigun, but the three picks are mostly based off sheer enjoyment and not overall quality..
dika123
Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon is really good anime. But need more serious and longer fight
NewGuy01
If that's what you think, you've missed the point.
Ridley_Prime
Yeah, it's a slice of life series.
vansonbee
Shinsekai yori
Gintama (comedy moments + action)

3. Seven deadly sins. Looking back now, there are so many better animes you could invest your time in, and while I don't dislike DBZ, I do like it quite a bit, maybe due to nostalgia, but it's definitely not in the top 10 best animes.
There are ones with better action, better storylines, hell, even better filler arcs. (Although Pikkon is pretty kick-ass)

It's way above average, its not apparent, but there's just something about it that soars.

Ouran Highschool Host Club.
Your Lie in April.
My Hero Academia.
I love these!
Trocity
Death Note
Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Those 2 are my clear favorites, rounding out the top 3 is a toss-up. HxH would probably be my 3rd but its gone on hiatus so many times and for so long its just...ugh. Monster was a great old anime. Just started My Hero Academia, have heard nothing but good things about it.
Not sure. I really wish Toriko's anime didn't suck, though.
