Thankfully, they mostly use guns (at least in nu-canon). The pikes seem to be most ceremonial.

Well they used both in the old, so don't discount melee weaponry now. I'm sure though, these guys will be using melee since they have different weapons apparently and it would be a waste to not show them using such things.

Though now that I look up info, I'm hoping this next movie won't be just a giant cluster of just cool things to throw onto the screen and what not just to say "Hey! Look how awesome the FO is!" and the story is hindered because of it.

Apart from these Guards, there's also like this mega star destroyer, Kylo's TIE Fighter, Execution Stormtroopers and who knows what else.

Never said those things specifically would, I'm just saying if they cram in a whole bunch of things it could just get really bloated and distracting.
