What can Toriyama give us

In Dragonball Super or any other dragonball show, what is it that Toriyama can give us to help us out with these characters? What is missing? Please don't say things like a good story, etc... the question is basic and doesn't involve anything like that.

NewGuy01
Honestly, the problem with Super isn't even the general storyboarding. The BoG arc, the FT arc, and even the Tournament of Power arc all operate on a solid premise...

The issue right now is honestly the lazy, piss poor execution of those good ideas. That goes for the both the animation team and the writing team, neither of whom seem to have any real passion for the project and instead just go for the easiest possible way to milk the most money.

In regards to what Toriyama can do, the answer is "he can be more involved." Because the less content he's involved with in the production, the more is left to the creative license of Toei.

NewGuy summed up the answer to this topic pretty well, but would still kinda like to hear from your perspective too (what Toriyama or whoever can give you that'll make Dragon Ball better for ya again), since you're quite the special snowflake who at this point watches over 100 episodes of a show you hate nearly everything about. stick out tongue

I don't deny DBS's lacklusterness either, but still, this kind of topic would be good to hear from all perspectives.

He can give up on the idea that Goku isn't a hero when he ends up letting Toei make Goku seem like a hero.

NewGuy01
They're not making him look like a hero at all?

Kento
They literally have Kaioshin explaining that Goku isn't evil because he gave them a fighting chance and that they shouldn't hate him..

I like the show and you do too. This thread is more about ideas than bashing.

You can watch the anime free legally on Crunchyroll, and read the manga on Viz.

They're confidence in peoples willingness to buy this show is so low, they're giving it away! Even Dragon Ball Abridged gets notices for that. laughing

This x 1000. Especially for the Tournament of Power arc. Based on the premise alone, it had a lot of potential, but I'm pretty disappointed thus far.

From the getgo, I've gotten the idea that they have no idea what to do with this Jiren character. What he's about. What his style is. They've hyped him to death, but all of the hype (aside from that one moment where he subtly blitzed Goku) has come off as forced as hell. He simply feels like an antagonist who is strong simply for the sake of being strong. Absolutely no imagination.

They spend multiple episodes developing Krillin and having him overcome his fears only to throw all that out the window by having him get knocked out of the ring after taking down two no-name losers. Like what the hell? Why even bother introducing a technique like the solar flare x 100 if it's not going to matter in the slightest? There were so many ways a technique like that could be utilized in a group setting, but all of that potential got thrown out the window.

We're told the ring is nigh-indestructible and see multiple gods of destruction barely leaving a few cracks behind despite fighting each other, but Caulifa has zero trouble blowing chunks off the ring in her SSJ state and Cale is able to blow big chunks off just by screaming.

They wasted a couple of seconds describing the threat that Yadrat guy posed before the tournament began, but the dude goes down in like two seconds a couple of episodes later. Absolutely no attempt is made to use instant transmission in a way that takes advantage of this setup (and there are many strategies here).

For an 80 man tournament, there sure are a lot of 1 v 1 fights going on uninterrupted. It's amazing how Goku can just sit there and casually engage in a friendly sparring match with Caulifa with no fear of interruption whatsoever. So much for a battle royale.

Lots of reused animation. It's sad that multiple fight scenes we've seen have literally been lifted out of the opening. And the animators were so cheap in episode 100 that they couldn't even be bothered to show Cale knock that random Pride Trooper dude out of the ring. Instead, we immediately cut to a reused shot of Zeno pushing the button on his IPAD.

Lots of pointless padding. In episode 99, we spent the first 5 minutes recapping (and reusing animation) for what occured at the end of the previous episode. Yes, I get it: Universe 9 is eliminated, but we already knew this! Why do we need 5 minutes of the characters droning on and on with almost the same dialogue from the previous episode? Even MasakoX was pretty annoyed with this in his review of that episode.

What does free have to do with anything? I'm sure there's sites that publish male porn, do you look at that as well?

The worst part is how base Cabba oneshotted the strongest fighter from universe 3 (who was hyped up before the tournament) without even looking at him. Narirama went out like a ***** too. This arc is mediocre as all hell, so far.

Anyways, I personally believe that when Goku and Vegeta infinitely surpassed the rest of the Z Fighters in the ROF arc, it should have stayed that way. They could have made the Z Fighters relevant in other ways while introducing possibly newer, stronger fighters to fight alongside Goku and Vegeta. Not senselessly powering up the Z Fighters. The show has too many ass pulls to actually appreciate the level of power that the characters currently embody.

The show has too many ass pulls to actually appreciate the level of power that the characters currently embody. They could do what contemporary battle-animes have done and simply have anyone not named Goku/Vegeta rely on strategy and cunning. The solar flare x 100, for example, was a step in the right direction, but Toei clearly has no idea what to do when they have something on the plate that requires a little more thinking than beam struggles and punch/kick/block fight animation loops.

XSUPREMEXSKILLZ
Well, my point was that even with strategy and cunning, they should be irrelevant in a fight against Goku or Vegeta. Like, literally every character besides Hit/Jiren/Goku/Vegeta/Frieza/Toppo would have been knocked out instantly had the scale been kept consistent from ROF onward.

I think they should have kept the scale consistent from ROF, make the z Fighters relevant in other ways, perhaps not pertaining to combat, and if pertaining to combat, it should have nothing to do with Goku and Vegeta, due to the hilariously immense gap.

Have Tenshinhan dust off his ability to instantly learn and better an opponents tech, then start time skipping Vegeta into oblivion.
