Japan gets a bad rap for ridiculous visuals and themes. And it's somewhat justified, they gave us Super Sentai/Power Rangers and Bobobo.

Otoh, Britain gave us Chitti Chitti Bang Bang.

Personally, I think the Brits smoke better stuff, based on their zanier shows.
