Most of you are probably aware, but starting February 2018, Marvel is releasing a canon 6-issue comic book series that will focus on the background of Thrawn.

I will read for sure. I just hope the comics do a good job of emphasizing Thrawn's Sherlock Holmes-esque hyperanalyzation of his surroundings/encounters and whatnot... I really enjoyed that about his characterization in the novel. thumb up

Here is some new content from issue #1:

On a different note, is there any sort of consensus on the 'threats' Thrawn was referencing here(he made similar comments in the novelization as well)..?:

Perhaps the Yuuzhan Vong? I know Filoni planned to canonize/introduce them in TCW at some point, but wasn't able to do so before the series ended... mmm

Kurk
Hell yeah; but those dreadlocks though.... erm

Zenwolf
So Cadet Vanto easily couldn't clear that hedge to help Thrawn because....? I mean that hedge barely looks like an obstacle.

I mean other than that, the art looks good.

Thrawn casually owns H'sishi, master of the Yinchom Dojo on Coruscant:

I'll admit I didn't enjoy this third issue as much as the previous 2, mainly because the focus being a Pryce and some things being rushed are why I suspect. I do speedread tho, so maybe it'll be more coherent the second time, but I feel like somethings were probably better explained in the book that they couldn't elegantly transfer to comic form. Next issue looks like the focus is back on Thrawn, so looking forward to that.

Galan007
They're essentially compressing a 450+ page novel into a six issue comic book series. Things are going to be rushed(or cut out completely) to some extent.

For me the comic is nice because it allows me to put some faces to some of the names from the novel(like Vanto, Nightswan, the various Imperials, etc.)

Freedon Nadd
Thrawn with dreadlocks? Just, no. He ain't no feminazi.

Galan007
Eh, wut?

One Big Mob
Where do you guys see dreads?

Galan007
There aren't any to be seen.

Thrawn had long hair when the Empire first encountered him shortly after the Clone Wars(when he was in faux-exile), but that's it.

I rectify. He looks like damn Tarzan.
Or
Thrawzan.

Galan007
That was exactly the facade he intended to have at the time. thumb up

Freedon Nadd
I wonder if he was raised by Wookiees.

I assumed somethings wouldn't make it, it's something I accepted having not read the book to begin with. Thanks for the further clarification. I'm with you there on the second point as well.

I'll have to add this to my list of things I need to read.

They're going in the unknown regions? You mean we're going to discover what those "terrors" which Snoke dealt off were? You mean....

Galan007
The threats in the Unknown Regions will almost certainly be left ambiguous in the comic series, just like they were in the novelization.

All we know about said threats is that some of them are, per Thrawn: "far more evil than the Empire, and far more dangerous to all living beings."

What makes you say that? They were left ambiguous in the novel because it was about The Last Jedi. This series is about Thrawn.

I also just want them to PLEASE give me an answer. I just need one, answer. The Yuuzhan Vong are something which we've already seen in the legends continuity, so I'm up for something new. If they're not going to tell us what's in the Unknown Regions, they could at least give us a hint! That's all I need. What is the nature of those things from the unknown regions? And it'd be amazing if they showed us what Snoke's earlier days in the unknown regions were like.

That sounds like something I want to know more about, though...

Here are pertinent excerpts from the novel:

And that was according to Thrawn after he'd been part of the Imperial hierarchy for a number of years(he was an Admiral at the time), and also after he'd gained working knowledge of the Death Star and its capabilities. So yeah, the threats he is aware of in the Unknown Regions must be uber AF if he STILL considered them more dangerous than the Empire.

That said, there is not a doubt in my mind that the Vong will eventually be revealed as one of these canon threats(likely the most evil/dangerous threat of all)... And they will be ridiculously OP when they finally appear, me thinks.

Zentrex
Well, that's...kind of something new? I'll try and be happy about it when it comes out, but that's about as much of a compliment as I can give it. Sorry master Yoda.

Galan007
Thrawn is promoted from Commander, to Commodore, to Admiral in the space of 5 pages, lol:

I knew the comic series was going to compress some shit, but damn... ermmnone
