To me lists like this should be top ten Action movies, top ten Sci-Fi movies, top ten Drama movies, etc. (hell maybe even separate Sci-fi vs Sci-fi/Action)

It's too hard to pin it all into just one list and it just doesn't make sense to say something like Die Hard is better or worse than something like Casino or Shawshank. They exist for different reasons.

Patient_Leech
Hey, don't talk shit about Die Hard! I watch it every year for X-mas.

But I agree, Shawshank holds up extremely well, last time I watched, which has been few years now.

Gladiator also holds up well and even Roller Ball and Planet of the Apes in terms of plot and performances are amazing. I just don't see that in Die Hard, much as I love it. My favourite actioneers of that period are Terminator and Highlander. I know both were diluted by all the shit that followed and I include T2 in that, but the first films for both franchises were a kind of magic.

Robtard
Gladiator is one of those films that I can turn on at any point and enjoy.

Sorry, random but I just learned this the other day...

Did you know Ridley Scott was supposed to do an adaptation of I Am Legend starring Arnold? This was before the Will Smith version came out, though. It probably would have been pretty sweet, knowing the great Ridley-approved prosthetic effects and whatnot. Ridley's pretty good at book adaptations, so it probably would have been cool (although I'm not sure Arny would have been a great choice, haha). I like the Will Smith version quite a lot, actually, but the CGI creatures did hurt the film a good bit.

Yep. He's made some good films. I will never forgive him for Alien Covenant, though. The Alien series is basically dead to me now, thanks to him.

Yeah, Bill the Butcher is one of the best characters ever, imo. A master class performance by Day-Lewis.

Glad to see Mad Max: Fury Road. Absolutely one of the best movies ever.

Also glad to see Eraserhead.

Apocalypse Now is another great one, but for me it's hard not to prefer Full Metal Jacket.
