If Thor's power is within him and not from the hammer, How did the Grandmaster suppress his power?

Inhuman
Alien tech

Galan007
Because when Thor was on Sakaar, he still thought he was just a worthless god of hammers. His "I AM teh lytening!!!111!!!" epiphany didn't come until after the fact.

Eon Blue
Plot device on steroids.

Based on some of the statements during an interview with Taika Waititi, the obedience discs constantly dampened his powers, not just when it was triggered:

Which is a big kick to the Hulk. Because the tie-in comic for the first Avengers movie mentioned that Odin transporting Thor without the Bifrost weakened him as well. So, both times they fought, Thor was weaponless for the most part, weakened, and holding back. And Hulk still couldn't get a clean win either time.

And yes, it's canon to MCU continuity.

Yeah, Odin clearly states there will be a cost to both of them. And Sif was concerned as to whether he made it there alive at all. Plus, as shown in the scans you posted, we can visibly see that Thor had a very rough trip.

TheVaultDweller
It also actually provides more context for the fight with Iron Man, as that took place pretty much immediately after those scans.

Kazenji
I have that tie-in comic and it was for Thor: The Dark World.

TheVaultDweller
Yeah, I sometimes mix up which bits are from which tie-in comic, because there is often overlap between different comics and films, as well as bits rehashed that were originally shown onscreen in films other than the one the comic ties into.

These tie-in comics are mostly just to milk more money out of desperate fans, but they do sometimes provide added bits of context to things not necessarily expanded upon in the films.

Kazenji
I've started to buy them in trades now, They normally include old issues too.

Not sure anything there indicates he was weaker against Hulk, as that happened a fair bit later.

But definitely against Iron Man.

TheVaultDweller
Wasn't really that much longer. They returned to the Helicarrier directly after that. And yeah, a few things happened. But, at best, it was a couple of hours between Loki being captured and Hawkeye and co hitting them.

Besides, the Ragnarok stuff doesn't help Hulk, especially considering what Taika Waititi said.

Darth Thor
^ Oh the Ragnarok one is pretty undisputable.

And btw even the Iron Man fight has been used by Hulk fans in the past as their evidence for Hulk > Thor. So it helps Thors case either way.
