I would agree. However, with how shit Game Thrones has gotten over the years, culminating in this dumpster fire final season, Dumb & Dumber probably wouldn't be an improvement.

John Campea reporting the new Star Wars films will be the Benioff and Weiss trilogy.

Thats bound to be Old Republic stuff. So yeah, definitely looking forward to that if true. About time Disney gave us something new and some proper Jedi vs Sith action.

Campea also heard Rian Johnson trilogy aint happening.

Of course it's not. The fan base absolutely hated it. As time has gone, the movie's reception has become worse and worse. Even saying the reaction is mixed is putting it lightly.

Zenwolf
I'm not sure about SW movies anymore...I dunno, maybe it's because we went so long without a movie(over a decade) that I feel like...SW doesn't need to have movies anymore.

It was fine with just 6 movies and the rest being books, comics, TV shows and games. ...If it ain't broke don't try and fix it right?

I know, was kinda obvious. But Rian has also been denying that for the longest time.

What do you think of Benioff and Weiss doing the next Trilogy?

ares834
They're a fine choice I suppose. My enthusiasm for SW has been destroyed by TLJ, so currently I don't have any strong feelings one way or another. But at the very least, they will try to appeal to the fans.

Darth Thor
^ Fair enough. Ive been put off since Force Awakens, then the combination of TFA and TLJ just convinced me this is simply a really bad Star Wars trilogy that wasnt needed at all.

That said, I really dug Rogue One, so would certainly give new directors doing spin off films a chance. I just think the Episodic films need to die now with Ep.9.

So yeah, it's confirmed that the next Star Wars film(s) following Ep.IX will be from Benioff and Weiss.

ares834
Not a good time to announce this.

Darth Thor
^ I think because Campea let the cat out the bag early, that probably pushed the official announcement forward.

Jmanghan
I don't want anymore fckin trilogies Disney.

LET IT END.

Makes sense.

DnD aren't incompetent writers as a lot of fans seem to think. The first four seasons (which were also the best season) may have had them following the books' outline but it still take quite a bit of skill to adapt it as well as they did. Furthermore, many great scenes were originals that they came up. The decline in quality of these past few seasons seems to have as much to do with a lack of passion on their part as it does with a lack of material to adapt.

Darth Thor
^ Only question is can they come up with a great story and do some epic world building without following a book?

Like JJ Abrams is a good Director, but the story for TFA was lame. But then again his weakness was his obsession with going overboard on nostalgia.

Galan007
I certainly think it can be good(I'm assuming it will indeed be set in the Old Republic era.) But like ares said, it's extremely hard to be optimistic, given...well...everything.

No idea why theyre keeping Kennedy around. Shes messes up so many times with this picking of Directors. Which is basically her main job.

Lord Lucien
Better the devil they know than some other yahoo picked at random. They tried that with Rian Johnson. Womp womp.

Also it might be in her contract to keep her around for X amount of years/projects. She's signed until 2021 currently. She came in from Lucas's deal as co-chair of Lucasfilm afterall. She's also hella connected to the wider film industry and the Disney films are still turning an overall profit. Fan entitlement isn't enough to trump that.

Galan007
Since DnD have left the project, it has been confirmed that the intended focus of their series of movies was going to be about the origin of the Jedi, and how they came to exist.

...It's a story I would've liked to see, tbh.

They renewed her contract just like last year which is what im confused about.

They are making profit, but shes not the only person involved. And from what I can tell, she keeps messing up on her only job, which is to pick directors for these films.

That was especially costly for Solo, which flopped due to its budget, not revenue. And the budget was ridiculously high, because they had to reshoot the entire film after switching directors.

Things like this Benioff and Weiss, is more of an embarrassment. Like they announced their trilogy as the next 3 Star Wars films.

Anyway we will see what happens. I doubt they will keep her around after her current contract expires. Or they might share her responsibilities with someone like Kevin Feige (we know thats happening for 1 film at least).

I would love to know the kinda blackmail and criminal chicanery that goes on behind the scenes of these major studios and networks. I bet it's some real House of Cards-level wheeler dealing.
