Yep...there's a new movie coming

produced by James Wan, Not too sure about the director since it'll be his first film

Filming will take place at Adelaide Studios in Australia

Well, if James Wan is involved, it will probably be a fun ride.

As long as they make it R rated.

The first movie was successful despite not being so and is still loved by the series creators to this day, referencing it in the latest games (Shang Tsung with MK11, etc), though yeah, an MK movie now would really need that R rating for a film to still resonate with fans today.

Being an avid MK fan, I must say that this movie looks campy in all the right places. I could be wrong, but this looks promising, esp since Wan is involved.

Never a good sign when Hollywood films in Aust.

They're given various tax exemptions for filming here (in exchange for providing work for local production companies) but can also mean Wan's on a tight budget to begin with.

If Cary-Hidoyuki Tagawa isn't recast as Shang Tsung though, there will be riots. I have good faith that he will though, as he wants it and the fans want it, and MK11 showed that he's still got it.

None of the other original cast are still as active from what I know, so I guess it's whatever far as the other characters.

Yeah, Trevor Goddard passed away in the early 2000's after an OD. Same with the guy who played Kano in the Legacy webseries ironically. Both were a tragic loss.

They should've picked Micheal Jai White for the role of Jax, Instead they went with Jimmy Olsen from the Supergirl show.

Not a bad actor, but weird picturing him as Jax.

Jessica McNamee (Sirens, The Meg) has been cast as Sonya, and Josh Lawson (Superstore, House of Lies) has been cast as Kano.

Lewis Tan (Wu Assassins, Deadpool 2) is in talks to play a lead too.

Interesting. If I had to guess, that means Lewis Tan might be Kung Lao.

No Tagawa as Shang Tsung? R.I.P. Seemed doubtful after seeing who else had been cast. Also, Mileena is darker skinned now? Should've just had the one they cast play Jade then.

Was about to edit in my last post but ran out of time (stupid that's still even a thing), but at least they got someone actually Japanese to play Scorpion, though of course they don't care for the other characters' nationalities as much.

True... they can always include him in a sequel, even though he's supposed to be a part of MK since the very beginning.

I feel like Cage serves the role of a kind of... He's the stand-in for the audience in a way. He's surrounded by Shaolin Monks with mystical powers, super-powered ninjas, special forces veterans and lord knows what else, and Cage is just a guy that's really, really, really good at karate.

Obviously he has powers of his own, but he's the most likely character to call attention to the most ludicrous shit going on.

Plus, he's the funny one.

Goro needs some good CGI, if he's gonna be in it...

Not only that, but Johnny Cage for the most part, has always been one of the only characters with a personality, while the rest were just archetypes.

What was good about Goro in the original movie was that he was a giant puppet, who kinda marked the end of the practical effects era of the 90's before everything started going full CG. Won't complain about seeing a CGI Goro now obviously, but still.

Agree with everything you said, although the Goro puppet had the distracting problem of one set of arms attaching through the stomach, didn't seem right at all.


It's a little thing, but you see it, and just instinctively know something isn't quite right.

Well they're still using practical these days but it's more of a mix of practical and CG.

That's one character i wouldn't mind them revisiting for the newer games, Develop her more.

She only ever appeared in two of the games playable.
