what is live action as opposed to what is animated

Clearly CGI is non traditional animation, often integrated into live action to enhance the scenes, this can go from a blaster bolt to bringing back a dead actor or making a realistic facsimile of a giant 3 headed nuclear monster running rampage in an eastern seaboard city.

It is strange this is technically an animated film.

Just a photo realistic one I guess.

CG is computer generated so clearly animated.

Do I think cgi is a live being as opposed to being animated? The answer is in the name of the one it is not.
