Snoke's ring = a lightsaber crystal?

I'm going to preface this by saying that Disney's current "all Star Wars media we crank out is canon" policy extends to their theme parks as well. Matt Martin himself confirmed that the story you experience in the newly minted Galaxy's Edge attraction at Disneyland is meant to be canon as well...

So on that note, it seems like the attraction has subsequently confirmed the 'importance' of the ring Snoke was shown wearing during TLJ:

The Visual Guide stated that it was a piece of obsidian from beneath Vader's Castle:

That being said, evidently one of the lightsaber crystals you can happen upon in the 'build a lightsaber' part of the attraction is a rare black crystal:

And this message comes with it:

This is NOT a Darksaber crystal. The lightsaber's blade color is still red(which makes sense given that the obsidian is infused with the dark side), and when placed inside one of the Sith Holocrons you can also purchase at the park(lol), it comes with special messages from Snoke: #RandomYouTubeExample

So yeah, it's obviously just another cash-pull from Disney, but that is evidently the 'official' explanation they're giving us for Snoke's ring: it is a lightsaber crystal.

Seems needlessly complicated for a ring, but nice to know I guess.

It's a pretty stupid cash-grab, but I've come to expect that with Disney.

Thanks for the info. thumb up

So how many kyber crystal colors are there in canon now?

Any word on why certain Jedi have certain color blades? Given how Sith crystals are made in canon I'm guessing it's all tied to their emotions, but I don't know.

So... he carries a crystal, but not a lightsaber to go with it?

Makes sense, since he's too damaged to properly walk to fight with one, there'd be no point for him to have a lightsaber.

Blue
Purple
Yellow
White
Black
Red

The color is typically tied to the user's emotional state when they acquire the kyber crystal and 'unite' with it. Basically a cosmic mood ring.

...With the exception of red Sith blades, which are created after taking a Jedi's kyber crystal and corrupting it with the dark side -- making it "bleed" as it were. There's also no information on the Darksaber.

...Or he only carried it due to its ties to Vader. Because as we know, Snoke was Vader's biggest fangirl. thumb up

Ah now that makes sense!

Mendax
I don't get it. Last I read the Jedi simply picked a certain color crystal that aligned with their personal views and morals or whatever. Now the color just....appears when the crystal bond with the Jedi? confused

Reminds me of that crystal you can get in Kotor 2 in the Dantooine Crystal cave. Although as I recall, it had nothing to do with the color, but merely a focusing crystal.

I really do like the canon explanation of how red kybers are formed:

It's also cool that they can be 'healed' by a Jedi afterward.
