I think this will be Netflix. It's filming...

Starring Dave Bautista, so that's cool.

His Dawn of the Dead was excellent, imo, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

this'll be a hack job, pass

Yeah, I actually revisited that a month or so ago and was surprised how much I enjoyed it.

Felt the ending was left a little too open, but it was still very enjoyable. James Gunn had the writing credit.

Except Romero never did a Army of the Dead.

I think This Movie will Blow Everyone's mind, because the plot on which they are making the whole movie is quite amazing.

A father who is trying to save his daughter from the army of the dead.
And the best part, Dave Batista is playing a fantastic role in the movie.

I have high hopes for this. But I'm guessing that the visuals will be better than the story.

Patient_Leech
This looks like it could be pretty sweet.

Despite the hate he gets and much if it deserved, Synder is capable of making enjoyable films:Man of Steel, Watchmen, 300, Dawn of the Dead

This one looks like it might be fun, even if I am admittedly a little burned out on the zombie genre. Not something I'd see in a theater, but Netflix which I am already paying for, why not.

This took two years to finish?

And again with the tagline - 'Visionary Director Zack Snyder' - just like in the trailer for Watchmen. The man isn't Stanley Kubrick; he's Michael Bay with artistic pretentions.

Robtard
Zack Snyder is probably the man behind the 'Visionary Director Zack Snyder' tagline, likely works it into the marketing contract.

I do not expect this movie to be any different, but it has Dave Bautista, who will obviously be the muscle. It also has Hiroyuki Sanada, hes been in a lot of good movies, hes good.

Looks very predictable. I'll leave the zombie movies to the pros, Japanese or Korean will do.

Patient_Leech
Is it just me or did the new "Trailer" show less than the previous Teaser? Are they afraid to show footage of this thing, or what?

The original Dawn was excellent.

You know who you are?

You are like a Star Wars prequel fan, who claims those films are superior to the OT.

Go sit in the corner.

Kazenji
Both Dawn of the Dead's were great.

StiltmanFTW
I enjoyed both, but Pr has zero respect for the father of the zombie genre.

He wants his zombies to run. His secret fantasy is running, failing to escape, getting caught, gangraped and eaten.

He really is Irish.

Kazenji

A heist with zombies. Shut up and take my money!!

jaden_2.0
This looks like a ridiculously over the top giant steaming pile of shit and I will still like it anyway. The Dead Island of zombie movies.

Kazenji
I'll be watching it, I liked Snyder's Dawn of the Dead remake

hoping it's just as good or even better then that.

StiltmanFTW
But this time, he needs to come up with a script of his own...

Kazenji
Yeah, He had help from James Gunn back then.

Yes, but it's not just that.

As you said, it was a remake. Romero was a genius of the zombie genre --- making decent remakes out of his original trilogy is an easy task.

Snyder does his best only when the script is already ready and loved by everyone. Dawn of the Dead, Watchmen, 300...

Nothing wrong with that. Directors dont need to be heavily involved with the script.

Not everyone can be George Lucas stick out tongue

I've liked most of the remake's for Romero's trilogy Night of the living (1990) & Dawn Of The Dead (2004). Seems like they dropped the ****en ball with the Day of the Dead remake.

laughing out loud

Okay, I see what you are getting at.

And what I am trying to say is that I don't believe they have a good story/idea for this film.

Hopefully, I'll be proven wrong.

Night of the Living Dead remake was directed by Tom Savini.

Dude was a combat photographer in Vietnam and worked closely with Romero on many films.

He is like Romero's Padawan who passed all the tests with flying colors and became a Jedi Zombie Knight.

Haven't seen it.

But I do know there were like two remakes and one unofficial prequel and they all have one thing in common - almost everyone on the web considers them crap.

Uh, a heist movie with zombies is just about the best idea for a movie I've heard of in a LONG time. So clearly you smokin' crack.

My only reservation is how these smart zombies will change the genre. But I had a friend point out that it's actually possibly an appropriate evolution given that modern zombies were originally an allegory rooted in the fear of communism and ideologies that, supposedly, strip down individuality and free thought (among other things, for sure). Night of the Living Dead certainly had very heavy political undertones. So, if played well, it might actually be a clever update on the idea of zombies, because so many "smart" people believe QAnon BS and various misinformation nonsense. They are certainly directly hindering our current civilization.

StiltmanFTW
"Played well", "clever" --- not exactly Zack's specialty.

Smart zombies were done before, too.

I don't trust Snyder.

Kazenji
I still like Snyder, I feel like he needs to have a break from doing the comic book movie adaptations.

Zombie heist movie. It practically writes itself!

I agree. Returning to an epic zombie flick seems a perfect break. It much better suits his darker, somber tendencies anyway. I still have some faith in Snyder despite Man of Steel and BvS. Watchmen and 300 are still enjoyable to me, and his Justice League cut restored a little more faith in him. So I have no doubt that this will at least be entertaining if not actually a great film.

Does anyone know, is this film going to have any direct connections to his Dawn of the Dead?

Because he took the story and made a movie out of it, staying 100% faithful to the source material.

The way fans have always wanted.

Army of the Dead is not a remake or an adaptation.

I admit there is certainly reason to be cautious.

Because the writers don't seem to have much of a track record, which makes me wary.

But I remain cautiously optimistic just because the idea is so promising. big grin

Patient_Leech
If I'm not mistaken, this comes out Friday. I'm a little psyched.

The reviews that are in seem pretty positive so far.

Patient_Leech
So I was sort of mistaken. It came out in theaters last weekend, but it's not on Netflix until this coming weekend. Part of me really wanted to see it on the big screen, but I guess I'll wait a few more days and watch it for free at home.

But it does seem to be getting decent reviews. So that's good.

Not 100% faithful stick out tongue

But honestly, I felt having bombs that mimicked Manhattan's powers as the twist was better than having the giant psychic death squid for live action film.

I haven't seen that yet. But I've heard good things from people. Maybe some mixed things also...

jaden_2.0
Yeah it's definitely a mixed bag. 2 phenomenal episodes. 2 terrible episodes and the rest are passable.

Very much divides opinion like other high concept stuff like Westworld and Tenet.

juggerman
Saw it. Nothing special.

Estacado
The plot is just plain stupid...

Kazenji
So has anyone actually watched this movie ?

carthage
I think as with any Zack Snyder films there are good moments interspersed through quite a bit of shit. We have the typical Zack Snyder pseudo-philosophical dialogue like the moment in the vault with Dieter/Vanderohe, the relationship that is only surface level, and lots of pointless character deaths. So if you're going here expecting some reinvention of his usual tropes you're going to be sorely disappointed. He's still the same guy chucking random songs in there, lots of gray/brown visuals, and snarky jokes that don't always land. That being said the movie looks better than BVS did, and Batista gives a good performance in his main role. I think he should carry more films as he was never given much in the MCU to do other than shitty jokes in GOTG. Some of the character decisions dont' make sense, and he could've shaved some of the run time down but I didn't think it was a horrible film ala Justice League or BVS.

Yeah, I was pretty pumped to watch this. Got up super early so as not to rouse the family and worked out while it played. It was pretty bad, I'll stick with your terrible rating. Some of the scenes just didn't make sense from a time lapse perspective and how it flowed.

2 thumbs down sad

Was meh...

After a couple of drinks I've forgotten it already.

.....

Kazenji
Its in the 70% range for both categories on Rotten Tomatoes

probably all from the Snyder fantatics.

🙄

I could easily find complaints about it (hand-held camera work and lens flares for example, heh), but for the most part I really enjoyed it. I thought there were a couple missed opportunities for some character drama, which puzzled me. Like when the guy locked the chick in the room to die I thought she was going to get out and expose the *******. I think that would have been more interesting than just another death by zombies. But yeah, some people are analyzing it like it's supposed to be Citizen Kane. Have fun with it as a Zombie/Heist movie!! The production and effects are pretty breathtaking and the story is perfectly passable for what it is. The cast is fun as well with some actual chemistry. One highlight for me was the ******* getting thrown around by the tiger like a cat hunting a mouse. 😆

I would say the ambition is very similar, adjusting for time and technology available. This is obviously 2021, not 2004, so it's much bigger.

What does that mean?

BackFire
Movie was pretty shit. In a week I will have forgotten everything about it.

Only remarkable thing about it was that they did a good job inserting Tig in via green screen.

Robtard
This was pure ass, dirty ass.

Which sucks, as Synder's 'Dawn of the Dead (2004)' is one of the best zombie flicks, imo.

I did, hence the smilie-tongue

I've only skimmed that comic, but I've heard from others who have read it that Synder pretty much captured the comic on film.

Patient_Leech
The movie definitely has it's problems, but I still find things to enjoy about it. The premise is just too fun.

I will say I don't know how I missed the connection to Aliens... I guess I was enjoying the film subconsciously because it was a remake of Aliens, haha...

Pretty much, yes. Few subtle differences/additions.

If he sticked to that (with his other comic films), he would be f*cking worshipped.

That's what I thought.

Knowing Snyder, he will try to "fix" the film in the special cut for dvd/blu-ray, as always.

I'm glad you specified dirty ass because I can definitely think of some assess I would love to shove in my face (Some I may not even care if they're dirty naughty).

But in all seriousness, I am a little curious to see how this plays a second time. I suspect it will not be quite so enjoyable.

You know, I think I'd be okay with that too. Just make it as trippy and as weird as possible. Just go bonkers with it, Idgaf.
