When Maul meets kanan and Ahsoka In rebels was he planning to kill both Ahsoka and Kanan and suppose he did would he have then tried to duel with Darth Vader etc ? Was that his motive to eventually try to confront Vader and try to defeat him ? Or just simply use Ezra to extract info from the structure and then escape etc ? What does canon say about this ?

Seemed like Maul's initial plan was to team up with Ahsoka/Kanan against Vader... But then Maul attacked them a bit later in the episode, knowing full well that Vader was enroute.

Maybe once the superweapon was activated, Maul believed his victory was assured and no longer thought there was a need for Ahsoka/Kanan? Dunno... Maul can go from being a decent strategist, to being an absolute dipshit in an instant.

I was under the impression that Maul that he'd won Ezra over. If he killed Kanan and Ahsoka before Vader could take the holocron from Ezra, Maul would be in a pretty good position. He could lie to Ezra and tell him that the Inquisitors killed his friends, and that Maul got revenge and killed the Inquisitors in turn. Then Maul and Ezra could weaponize the super weapon against Vader and possibly stand a chance. But Maul wasn't expecting Ahsoka to put up as much of a fight as she did, and he absolutely wasn't prepared for Kanan's fluke.
