Arnold Schwarzenegger issued a stinging rebuke of Donald Trump on Sunday, comparing the riot at the US Capitol which the president incited to Kristallnacht, the night in November 1938 when Nazi thugs attacked Jewish Germans and their property, a harbinger of horrors to come.

He also compared American democracy to a weapon he wielded onscreen as Conan the Barbarian nearly 40 years ago, saying: “Our democracy is like the steel of this sword. The more it is tempered, the stronger it becomes.”

In a video posted to social media and scored to rousing classical music, the 73-year-old former Republican governor of California said he “would like to say a few words to my fellow Americans and to our friends around the world about the events of recent days”.

“I grew up in Austria and was very aware of Kristallnacht, or the Night of Broken Glass,” he said. “It was a night of rampage against the Jews carried out the Nazi equivalent of the Proud Boys .”

“Wednesday was the Day of Broken Glass right here in the United States. The broken glass was in the windows of the United States Capitol. But the mob did not just shatter the windows of the Capitol. It has shattered the ideals we took for granted. They did not just break down the doors of the building that housed American democracy. They trampled the very principles on which our country was founded.”

Thankfully, what happened on the 6th of January was nothing like Kristallnacht.

Kristallnacht was the start of something worse, and it just got worse and worse in Germany, Austria and the rest of the Axis European states. Arnie thinks the worst has already passed on January 6, and I hope he is right. Because if it's just the start of something bigger and uglier to come...

Democracy is easily taken advantage of by both the Republican and the Democratic parties.

Having two parties with such power and such opposite philosophies is quite literally how the Civil War started. Once Lincoln decided to take away slaves, people got crazy. All it takes is the Republicans to try and take away gay marriage, or Democrats to try and take away guns to spark another civil war.

I do not condone what they did in Washington. They need to prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Calling for the death of the VP is inexcusable.
But where was the outrage when BLM & Antifa burned down city after city? Where was the outrage when Antifa members openly shot and killed Trump supporters? I heard nothing but silence from the left when 'protestors' looted and burned. And didn't Chris Cuomo say on CNN 'tell me where it says protesting has to be polite and peaceful'?

Spare me your selective outrage. Is it okay for one side to be violent, but when the other party misbehaves it's the end of the world? We need to start talking to each other again rather than treating each other like enemies.

I am not an expert on fascism, but what Trump is is NOT a fascist. Has he seized control of the government? Burned books? Put minorities in death camps? Nope.
