Apparently Trump's lawyers did a shit job of arguing that this trial would be unconstitutional, but still only six Republicans had the balls to put country before party.

The GOP were basically acting as Trump's lawyers for him the entire time.

Not really seeing the goal here. The point of impeachment is to remove a sitting president from office, leaving you free to persue criminal charges against him as you would any private citizen.

If this trial is all about conviction of crimes from while in office... Since he's no longer protected by the executive office as is, can't they jump straight to a criminal trial?

Wouldn't a federal conviction do that anyways?

Biden may be a Centrist himself, but his party has a significant Radical Leftist group in it and I fear he'll give in to some, if not all, of their demands.

Define significant. By all means, tell us what percentage of the party are "radical leftists." You know that Democrats are liberals, and liberalism is not leftist, right?

Six real Republicans. Better than nothing.

The rest -- the Cult -- will still abandon facts, abandon oath of office, abandon rule of law, abandon the country. Their priority will be plainly obvious: protect the dominant personalities (Trump, Greene, for starters). Protect those who best unite the Cult through hate and lies.

That is what a Cult does, after all: protect its leaders above all else.

If he genuinely supports it, I don't see anything wrong in that.

As long as he doesn't feel like he owes Obama anything, or his backers. Joe's got to realize he's his own man now, not an extension of somebody else.

Three Republicans met with Trump's lawyers the other day. You know, because that is totally legit, the jury in a trial coordinating with the defense.

40 executive orders though.

I'm impressed he found the time, he JUST assumed office.

Somewhat disappointing but not surprising, the final outcome. Too many Republicans concerned with covering their backsides with the radical right voters they have to placate back home, rather than doing what's right. Al least Mitch McConnell admitted he only voted to acquit on a technicality, but totally considered Donald Trump responsible for the riot.

We just have to hope the other legal issues coming up keep the stench on him for the next several years, and that the GOP becomes so toxic it splits open and the Trumpists fall into the abyss.

Seeing McConnell blame Trump for causing the insurrection that put people in danger, including his own VP and ended with a few casualties after he had voted to not convict was just typical.

Hopefully Trump runs again in four years, the GOP snubs him, he forms his own party and pulls a Ross Perot, ensuring a Rep loss in 2024. They deserve it.

It was known from the start that Republicans would put party before country again. Ted Cruz bragged about how the outcome was already decided on his podcast thing. That doesn't mean the Democrats in the House and Senate don't do their job.

As a Trumper, what did you think of McConnell blaming Trump for the insurrection?
