Why are companies doing so much nostalgia?

So many companies have been pandering with nostalgia is common right now and They have been doing a whole lot of it. They keep rebooting too many cartoons from the 1980's/1990's, reviving old movies with new rehash sequels like Disneys Star Wars sequel trilogy to appeal to long time nostalgic fans. Everthing has to be very desperate nostalgia for these reboots/revivals as the writers do not want to be original anymore.

Are the companies afraid to make new original ideas that are not reboots/revivals of past existing series?.

I think they're incapable of innovating. Most of the companies vdoing nostalgia grabs are corporate megaliths.
Companies of this size lack agility and adaptability.

Another problem with all these reboots or revivals is how the SJW's keep forcing diversity for the sake of it.

It sells and it makes things that aren't good otherwise seem interesting to a lot of people.

Randomly found a Reader Digest thing online where a movie guy talks about how Hollowood used to be a cottage industry where movies could be green lit by passion. Then in 1984, Corporations realized a huge backlog of movies could be perpetually resold for profits. Tinsel town suddenly becomes a corporate town. Passion replaced with spreadsheets and focus groups.

Innovation is risk. Corporations by their nature avoid risk.

Nostalgia is big, because its the surest way to make a quick buck.

Well you also have to think about how the media delivery system has changed over time as well.

The current infrastructure allows people to access their childhood at any time given you can pay for it.

Where as if you go back further every decade you see that your ability access this nostalgia content gets more and more restricted.

So companies are doing so much more nostalgia simply because it is lucrative and easy to do now.

Trust me if they had the ability to have streaming services offer up reusable older content in the 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s they would have done so in a heart beat.

Also there isn't a lack of new content. In fact we are living in an era that is saturated with the most new IPs and content being created. It just has to contend with the availability of everything that came before and all the other new content being created so it's far to filter through everything.

It's better when they make brand new ideas rather than rebooting everything old series they see.
