Would the world be better or worse off today and how so?

Conservative author and film maker Dinesh D'Souza actually made a film about this very topic. I had forgotten about that until I made this post. I still need to watch it.

If it was still run by Britain it's resources would've been brought to bare much sooner in both WW1 & 2. I'm so glad that we Americans have an inalienable right to bear arms to defend ourselves against criminals, terrorists, and a tyrranical government. How many other countries have citizens that can boast about that? Not many that's for sure.... and that is just one of many of our rights (though that is probably by far the most important one).

On a serious note though obviously there are too many variable to know what would have happened. What I would guess though is that the U.S. would probably not have come together like it did. My guess is it would ended up as a few different nations.

The european nations probably would have carved it up similar to Africa.

Slavery probably would have ended sooner and the Native Americans might come out ahead and actually gotten some nation states set up.

So the 13 Colonies wouldn't have revolutioned into the USA, they're firmly British owned. Then just what's to be done with the rest of this huge country?

The Mexicans own California, Oregon, over to Colorado and down to Texas.

The French have Louisiana up to Illinois and over to Alabama.

Russians have Alaska, Washington, Idaho, and Montana.

Canada has the Dakotas to Michigan.

A lot of stuff in the middle and borders are military forts seeing near constant incursions by Native Americans who are swiftly wiped out, Mexican bandits and other countries soldiers looking to gain territory.

The USA would be a warzone because the British hate the French and that's never going away. With that eternal conflict the first superpower is going to be Germany, they're going to wipe out everyone in WWII and the thousand year Reich would begin.

So the world would probably be worse off.

Some other country probably would step up and fill the void of "superpower". Maybe Britain, maybe Canada. Who knows.
