I genuinely looked for a thread but couldn't find one.

So, Activision is getting sued for sexual harassment. Now, I'm sure most of us have read stories about game devs and their iffy behaviour, but this... this is beyond that to a level that's hard to fathom.

And to top it all off, they're not being sued by a woman or a group of women. No, they're being sued by the STATE OF CALIFORNIA after a two-year long investigation.

https://eu.usatoday.com/story/tech/gaming/2021/07/22/activision-blizzard-sued-calif-over-sexual-harassment-equal-pay/8053355002/

https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/video-games/california-sues-activision-blizzard-alleged-sexual-harassment-frat-boy-rcna1487

You can read some of the allegations here:

And see the full court filing here:

So yeah... I dunno. I really dunno. I'd like to think they get raked over the coals for this, but with how ****ing profitable that company is? I don't know if this is going to kill them or anything (even with WoW users steadily decreasing, they still have CoD etc).

One thing I do know, is even half that shit is true, those ****ers need to be taken out back and shot.

Meh, bet you dollars to donuts this is snowflakes being snowflakes.

"Oh no he's a hetero white male, SOUND THE ALARM!"

This could definitely be the case.

But some of the allegations are serious.

cdtm
Yeah. The suicide sounds really bad, but I'm not sure any policy or law can control for passing around nudes.

I mean, people have phones and people gossip. No stopping that.

In other circumstances I might agree, but this is way, way beyond that if what's being alleged actually happened.

Doesn't make it okay. Doesn't mean you shouldn't fire their asses for harassment.

It was a two year investigation that revealed all this though. I don't like your odds on that bet.

Male employees had to physically pull these creeps off female employees, according to these reports.

That sounds like it got pretty damn bad, even before getting into one of the women's suicide.

...which is why we have consequences when they violate the policy.

I know there's such a thing as false accusations and stuff, but I'm not really getting that from this. Some men legit have a problem when it comes to women, and at companies will still act or think like they're in middle school or high school because they never grew up. Not surprising with Blizzard either after previous shit with them and seeing how the likes of Ubisoft and Naughty Dog were prevalent with frat culture.

This is what happens when a company doesn't incorporate and enforce corporate standards at work for the sake of looking or feeling "cool".

StyleTime
https://www.pcgamer.com/ubisoft-employees-say-theyve-had-enough-of-empty-promises-offer-solidarity-to-activision-blizzard/

Hundreds of Ubisoft employees signed a letter in solidarity with the Activision/Blizzard employees, and also called on Ubisoft to better address its own misconduct.

Smasandian
I think we all agree taking nude photos from an unwilling employee and then sending it to people in the office is something that be punishable by termination of employment and possible a criminal case (depending on jurisdictions and such)

If these allegations are true, it's disgusting behaviour.

Speak for yourself. If you have nudes on a hackable device or sent to anyone, you deserve what you get.

Same reason I don't sympathize with the Girlsdoporn whores, maybe don't accept work in one of the shadyist industries on the planet so you won't need to worry about being lied to and having your videos released to every online porn service imaginable, instead of in some third world nation.

Smasandian
Sure bud.

Can we get cdtm banned for this? This is pretty sick if he actually believes this.

cdtm
For what, believing in idiocy begetting an idiots reward?

I'm not condoning what happened. But I won't sympathize either.

If you have nudes that are stolen and uploaded, that is your fault.

Only an idiot doesn't realize hackers are everywhere, and would leave themselves vulnerable.

These don't actually apply here, as we already have a two year investigation showing the victims weren't faking it. You are, in fact, victim blaming.

Going by your logic, the victim of a mass shooting is at fault because they could have just stayed home that day.

No, not a good comparison.

This is more like someone leaving a pile of self porno vids around their room and being upset their hubby or parents found it.

Or pleasuring one self in front of a laptop camera and giving a hacker a show.

There's risk, and there's being dumb. Keeping nudes on a phone is the latter.

Also the fact that hacking a phone is illegal so his point about the victims are too blame for pictures on their phone being hacked is complete bullshit.

And the fact that its generally illegal to share intimate photos without their consent......

And his reference to GirlsDoPorn is complete crock of shit...it has no relevance at all...and the example is terrible considering the owners of that company have been convicted for fraud, sex trafficking (due to their videos), coercion and child pornography....

cdtm
There are no victims. Only the ill prepared, the lazy, and the weak.

No, it's quite an apt comparison. It just feels ridiculous because the logic informing it -- your logic -- is ridiculous.

Your self-tape example features people in intimate relationships accidently discovering things left around a domicile they share. They didn't distribute it to the public.

That's wholly different from illegally hacking someone's device and/or distributing the footage to the public.

thumb up

I'm genuinely unsure if cdtm knows how laws work.

I'm not even sure if he knows how reality works sometimes tbh. Even philosophically, his take would be a pretty difficult position to defend.

It's just not how the concept of fault works.

cdtm
Fault has been perverted by slimeball lawyers and snowflake processional victims. Personal responsibility is a thing of the past.

If someone is careless enough to leave their keys in their car and their car gets stolen, they get treated like victims instead of the lazy careless slobs they are.

If a well to do person walks down a dark ally they're simply winning a darwin award when they're robbed and dumped in the river.

Smasandian
Your examples are ****ing dumb.

Having pics on a phone behind 2FA or a pingcode is not the same thing as leaving keys in the car.

But...I guess you are the type of person who think its OK from woman to get raped because they are wearing a bikini top.

And by your logic, the manager who was passing sexual photos without the person consent (which I believe is a crime in California)...is also dumb.

cdtm
If you dangle raw meat in front of a ravenous wolf, don't blame the Wolf when you get devoured.

Tzeentch
Every time a animal attacks a person we tend to not only kill the animal but hunt down about half its family just to be safe.

Adam Grimes
You are not being funny this time, ctdm.

Smasandian
If you use his point that it's the victims problem...then anything he complains about is his problem alone.

That's a kind way of putting it.

I won't make excuses and bow out while I can.

Good. The buck should stop at the top.

Hopefully this new leadership was make actually changes, and not be merely symbolic gesture that results in maintaining the status quo.
