Whichever one triggers people on KMC the way Everything Everywhere all at Once did. 😏
Robtard
Probably American Fiction because it's Black centric.
Patient_Leech
Ugh, jaden, you Scottish bastard, must you try to open that can of worms again? I'm not taking the bait..
I've already got a pretty good head start on the Best Pictures. I've seen exactly half of them already.
Still need to see...
"American Fiction"
"Maestro"
"Past Lives"
"Poor Things"
"The Zone of Interest"
Robtard
Didn't we prove that Jaden was paid off by the Council of Asians to shill for EEAAO?
"American Fiction" - Watched
"Anatomy of a Fall" - Not
"Barbie"- Watched
"The Holdovers"- Watched
"Killers of the Flower Moon"- Watched
"Maestro"- Watched
"Oppenheimer"- Watched
"Past Lives" - Not
"Poor Things"- Watched
"The Zone of Interest" - Not
Just need three for me
Impediment
The fact that Barbie has even one Oscar nomination proves there is no god.
RDJ did fantastic in Oppenheimer.
Lily Gladstone is a shoe-in for Killers of the Flower Moon, IMO.
Robtard
I'd pick RDJ for BSA, a close second is Sterling K. Brown.
Bashar Teg
People still in disbelief at the academy, when many years ago goodfellas lost to a crappy white savior movie. The academy is a joke, as is all these awards shows
With that said: Barbie was great. Should have had more nominations .

I mean, it's not surprising. It's very flamboyant and panders to theater lovers with the music numbers and such. I don't have a problem with it being nominated. It was fun and entertaining provided one isn't a hypersensitive snowflake Conservative.

Of those three I've seen Anatomy of a Fall and it's pretty ****ing brilliant. A long, heavy watch, though. So be prepared.
Even having not seen all the Best Pictures yet, I just feel in my gut that it's going to be either Killers of the Flower Moon or Oppenheimer.

It may not be to your taste or have resonated with you but it's very good by any objective metric you can point out and if you disagree you're not only wrong but almost certainly biased. It was certainly a less flawed movie than Oppenheimer tbh.
Speaking of Oppenheimer's flaws how the **** did this movie get nominated for best sound? The sound editing in the movie is ****ing atrocious. The music and ambience is torqued all the way to the ****ing sky to the point that it drowns out dialogue in a film that is filled with dialogue. Watching it in theaters without subtitles got pretty annoying ngl.
Kazenji
At least Godzilla Minus One gets a nomination, Deserves more tho.
Impediment
Ryan Gosling gets an Oscar nomination while Margot Robbie gets snubbed.
This is literally the plot of the Barbie movie.

I just realized Saltburn didn't get any nominations. I guess that's good, because it was kind of overhyped and actually a bit cringey at times.
Just means I wasted my time on it. Ugh.

Saltburn was awful.

Since Barbie's nomination has brought the strife out again. Imagine the tears if it wins. LoL.

lol, don't forget that he's also a wannabe screenwriter. He sucked and so now he's a Right-wing grifter.
Robtard
Guys, guys, guys, Saltburn was not awful. The story centered around awful people and awful acts, but the writing, acting and directing was good.
Barry Keoghan did another solid performance with the character. This guy is shaping up to be a very good actor.

He is a good actor, yes. And he also seems to have a pretty good-sized pecker from what I could tell.

Patient_Leech
Where the **** can one watch "The Zone of Interest"??
Patient_Leech
Ah, thanks. Hopefully I'll have access to it before the Oscars.
Same with Poor Things and American Fiction.

playa1258
Godzilla Minus One winning for VFX would be nice
Patient_Leech
Wife and I tried to watch Maestro. I was tired admittedly, but I fell asleep after 15-20 min. It wasn't holding my attention. After hearing my wife explain more of it the next day I think I'm done with it. Sounds boring AF.
Patient_Leech
Tried to watch Past Lives the other night too and found it too boring. I think I'm more tired lately, yes, but some of these movies are too boring for my taste, too, because I have no desire to return to them. 🤷
Patient_Leech
I have much higher hopes for the other 3 that I haven't seen yet, they look much more interesting...
"American Fiction"
"Poor Things"
"The Zone of Interest"
Patient_Leech
That's a weird category. Especially since there's no action performance category, which would make more sense.

You gotta have a branch.

The Zone of Interest will win.
Impediment
The Boy and the Heron deserves best animated movie, but $100 says Spider-Man will take it.

Did see American Fiction last night and it was great. Very funny and witty.
BruceSkywalker
glad Nolan won the DGA SO JUST GIVE THAT MAN THE FRICKING OSCAR
Patient_Leech
Finished The Zone of Interest.
Because I witnessed no Nazis die or suffer significantly on screen in the film, my review will be summed up in the immortal words of Blaine Edwards and Antoine Merriweather from In Living Color's "Men on Film": HATED IT.

Patient_Leech
Watched Poor Things. Weird greatness. Liked it.
Patient_Leech
Well, Poor Things just cleaned up on Make-up & Hairstyling, Production Design, and Costume Design.
I guess strictly historical stuff doesn't win in those categories?

You owe me $100, Mr Half-foot.

Oppenheimer dominated this year much like the fantastic Everything Everywhere all at Once did last year.
Glad Cillian Murphy was finally recognised for his talent. Some of you should watch his pre-Sunshine movies. Particularly Disco Pigs.
Emma Stone was the only big surprise I think.
Patient_Leech
Yeah, I wasn't expecting Emma Stone to win, but glad she did. I was thinking either Gladstone or Anatomy of a Fall lady.
I mean, it really couldn't be any other movie with Oppenheimer in the race. It's a pretty extraordinary film. It does seem the obvious winner for Best Picture.
Patient_Leech
Kind of crazy that Killers of the Flower Moon didn't win ANYTHING.
wakkawakkawakka
At least The Boy and the Heron and Godzilla Minus One came away with something... I guess.
playa1258
Nice to see Stone, Oppenheimer and Godzilla win.
Robtard
Emma Stone won in Poor Things because she didn't go full retard, it's a shoo-in to be nominated.
Patient_Leech

The character kind of started out full retard, but developed and progressed.
My first thought at the beginning of the movie was that she was kind of doing a Gilbert Grape.
ares834
Happy for Oppenheimer. It was expected, but still nice to see an actual good movie win tons of awards unlike last year where the dumpster fire that it EEAAO inexplicitly did the same.
Godzilla winning sfx is probably the big story. At least when it pertains to blockbusters. With budget becoming ridiculously inflated, many of them being north of 200 mill, this "little" film that only costs a mere 15 million beats them all. Hopefully it will lead to a change in the industry with how sfx are used. But that's probably me just hitting the hopium.
Anyway, Japan won big last night. Godzilla, The Boy and the Heron and, uhhhh, Oppenheimer I guess.

Hating EEAAO is a sign of low IQ, so I suppose it is no coincidence that Leech and ares hate it.
I haven't seen it.
Robtard
Really shouldn't say I hated EEAAO, as I did enjoy and laugh at some parts and some characters. But it's WAY overrated.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand EEAAO. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Evelyn's existentialistic outlook, which is deftly woven into her characterisation- her personal philosophy draws heavily from Nikolai Berdyaev literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike EEAAO truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in the scene where Evelyn has hot dog fingers, which itself is a cryptic reference to Stanley Kubrick's film epic 2001: A Space Odyssey. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as the Daniels' genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂
And yes, by the way, i DO have EEAAO tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid 😎

And the only award EEAAO should have won was that Michelle Yeoh is still f**kable and she's probably 97 or something by now.

I'm just glad Godzilla won. Great year to be a Godzilla fan

Nice to see Killers of the Flower Moon go home empty handed. Midget Scorsese has always been a sack of shit. Lily Trampstone should go tomahawk herself.
As for Leo he needs to go play a retard again.

Oh, and who the hell's idea was it for Al Pacino to announce the Best Picture winner? lol
Patient_Leech
I was glad that Maestro and Past Lives got nothing. They were boring AF. Didn't even deserve a nomination, but at least they won nothing.

Perfect Days (2023) is an excellent film. Do recommend.
Warning: Lots of Japanese people in it
