It was due to a plot device tachyon machine designed by Reed f*ckin Richards and Dr Doom. Nobody on this team has the horsepower to just physically knock off the surfer off his board.

Hell, the likelihood of something like this happening to anyone trying to take him off his board is much, much higher than him actually being separated from the board:
