Van Zan is resurrected in Middle Earth to hunt and kill Smaug. He hires a team of dwarves to help him out. Can Van Zan get the job done without dying this time?
that depends. is he the dwarves' commanding officer? if so smaug gets treated to an easy feast as van zan leads them into a meat grinder because of his incompitence.
based on:
-1 van zan divulges his knowledge that the only viable plan is to kill the male dragon, inadvertently confessing that he had previously and pointlessly led his 200+ troops to their deaths on hunting expeditions after female dragons using human bait, before even making his first appearance on screen.
-2 after divulging his knowledge that dragons have the most effective eyesight at night and are only weak during twilight, he then goes on to lead his remaining soldiers and villagers on a MIDNIGHT RAID on the male...to their swift, helpless, and fiery deaths, of course

1. I think he figured it out after he already killed several dragons and realized they were all female. Then afterward he still killed female dragons until he found the male one.
