Gannicus walks out of the gate on one end. Hector steps out on the other end. Hector has his shield and sword, Gannicus is dual wielding. There are different types of weapons littered about the edges of the arena in case either opponent loses, or breaks the one/s in hand.
I've only seen bits and pieces, but I thought going by the 300 style slow down, kill x amount of people, speed up formula that they were at least partially enhanced. But as I said I've only seen a bit here and there so I'm no expert.
They are extremely skilled. Ashur (who by his own admission was one of the least formidable Gladiators) was able to beat several Roman Soldiers at once. Spartacus beat several Roman soldiers with a wooden sword and cut the face off(literally) of a 7 foot barbarian.
It's questionable, since they never fought to a decisive victor. From feats alone, I'd actually rate Gannicus as the better fighter... but that's just me.
