Vegeta would win. Iirc, Goku could barely move after that beam struggle but Vegeta, while weakened, was still battle ready. He even fought off Gohan, Krillin and Yajirobe.

Goku could move fine after the beam struggle but was beat fown by the grest ape. Losing your tail also makes a saiyan slightly weaker.

Yeah, Goku would have lost, even if Vegeta didn't go great ape. Gohan and Krillin still would have pushed the fight in their favor though, so the end would have been the same.

I agree. Vegeta only went ape because he didn't know Goku was basically out of steam. He thought Goku could still push his power up like crazy so he transformed. Without help Goku dies
