American Gun--a Rediscovered Gem
With the success of the movie "Sideways", the cast members have found themselves awash in publicity, movie offers, as well as interest in their past work.
The one who has most benefited has been Virginia Madsen, who is already hard at work on her next movie, "The Wrong Element", opposite Harrison Ford.
Now that she is well known again, more attention is being paid to some of her previous films.
One in particular is "American Gun", a movie that features one of her best performances, but is best remembered (if at all) for being actor James Coburn's final movie.
He plays the greif-stricken father of the victim of a shooting, played by Madsen, who seeks out the history of the murder weapon, in order to come to grips with the killing.
We find out why in its shattering conclusion.
An independent film that seemed to go directly to video, it is worth seeking out, and it is on cable this month.
