the poseidon adventure...another remake

sorry to depress you guys even more after the fog remake thread in the horror section

but another remake is on its way...the poseidon adventure

this one is being directed by wolfgang peterson...the man who brought you troy, outbreak, the perfect storm and Das Boot

given the brilliance that was das boot...this could potentially be quite good

here is the IMDB link

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0409182/

They should stop on doing crappy remakes of great movies. Leave the classics alone.

i dont know that it is bad.. if the remake sucks it could be good for a great classic.. it will bring new and old attention back to the orinal and more people may discover it, and if the new one sucks now ones gonna say well the first sucks to then they would be more likely to try to go rent it and see it.

I guess it could be good...'Das Boot' is a great movie, and I thought 'The Perfect Storm' was good, despite the incredible amount of Squeezy-Cheese it laid on...Our man Wolfgang certainly loves tapping the source! I wonder if he surfs...

Click me, I'm a link to the trailer! Or am I ass-porn...

To be honest, the Plot outline sounds a bit weak compared to what wolfgang peterson usually works with. But I'm sure he can stretch things out. He's a good director. Outbreak and Das Boot were good films.

The Poseidon Adventure's already on DVD. Poseidon is coming to theaters and it looks like Titanic 2 to me.

Oh come on, it doesn't look that bad. I'm pretty sure it's not going to be my favorite movie ever, but it looks like a decent summer thing, though I agree with Morning Glory about the trailer showing a whole lot of the story. I saw this link to a review from Rolling Stone over on IMDB, and it pretty much confirms what I figured the movie would be like (sorry for the lack of direct link, but the forum won't let me use a url).

rollingstone.com/reviews/movie/_/id/7222814/rid/10147202/?rnd=1146180527847&has-player=unknown

The review is pretty positive, though my favorite part has little to do with their opinion of the movie. After outlining Kurt Russell's character, they say:
quote:
That's a lot of baggage for a character to carry when they could have just outfitted Russell with an eye patch, called him Snake Plissken and titled the film Escape From the North Atlantic.

It sounds like they think the movie will make a good summer action flick- probably what most were expecting to hear the movie will be. Nothing revolutionary, but they say there are some cool visuals and good performances that make it something worth seeing.

Also, Wolfie, this is totally not Titanic 2. Titanic crashed into a big wall of ice and Poseidon gets hit by a big wall of water.
See? Totally different stick out tongue

How about ya'll shut the hell up about people making remakes. They're just movies. And all of you are going to go watch them anyways.

Hipocrites.

I'm tired of hearing people complain about remakes and how they shouldn't be made. How in the hell does it affect you? It doesn't.

I'm going to state this everytime someone on the KMC forums has to complain about a remake. It's a remake. Get over it.

:]

we wouldnt be complaining if any of them were actually any good...even remotely average would be a start

but lets look at the evidence shall we

the italian job
rollerball
the grudge
the ring (and the ring 2)
godzilla
bewitched
charlie and the chocolate factory
the fog
planet of the apes
the thomas crown affair
get carter
psycho (and given that it was done exactly scene for scene you think it would be hard to **** it up)
thunderbirds
the asassin
the island of dr moreau
101 dalmations
the manchurian canditate
stepford wives
oceans 11
shaft
solaris
the blob
house on haunted hill
the lady killers

and thats only some of them

now lets look at good remakes

invasion of the body snatchers
scarface
cape fear
dawn of the dead
the fly
the thing
the magnificent seven

I just watched Poseidon last night and it was pretty cool. There was a cheese factor involved, mostly in the dialogue. It was as if too much character development was trying to be crammed into too short of time. However, the eye candy, action, and the impossible circumstances set before the characters was stunning and made up for any bad thing in this film. As soon as the shit hits the fan, and it does very early on in the film, the suspense just never stops, there are no dull moments. I give this film two fat thumbs way up!
