i dont know that it is bad.. if the remake sucks it could be good for a great classic.. it will bring new and old attention back to the orinal and more people may discover it, and if the new one sucks now ones gonna say well the first sucks to then they would be more likely to try to go rent it and see it.
I guess it could be good...'Das Boot' is a great movie, and I thought 'The Perfect Storm' was good, despite the incredible amount of Squeezy-Cheese it laid on...Our man Wolfgang certainly loves tapping the source! I wonder if he surfs...

To be honest, the Plot outline sounds a bit weak compared to what wolfgang peterson usually works with. But I'm sure he can stretch things out. He's a good director. Outbreak and Das Boot were good films.
I've changed my mind. I now think this looks like a giant pile of pig shit.

Oh come on, it doesn't look that bad. I'm pretty sure it's not going to be my favorite movie ever, but it looks like a decent summer thing, though I agree with Morning Glory about the trailer showing a whole lot of the story. I saw this link to a review from Rolling Stone over on IMDB, and it pretty much confirms what I figured the movie would be like (sorry for the lack of direct link, but the forum won't let me use a url).
The review is pretty positive, though my favorite part has little to do with their opinion of the movie. After outlining Kurt Russell's character, they say:
It sounds like they think the movie will make a good summer action flick- probably what most were expecting to hear the movie will be. Nothing revolutionary, but they say there are some cool visuals and good performances that make it something worth seeing.
Also, Wolfie, this is totally not Titanic 2. Titanic crashed into a big wall of ice and Poseidon gets hit by a big wall of water.
See? Totally different

I just watched Poseidon last night and it was pretty cool. There was a cheese factor involved, mostly in the dialogue. It was as if too much character development was trying to be crammed into too short of time. However, the eye candy, action, and the impossible circumstances set before the characters was stunning and made up for any bad thing in this film. As soon as the shit hits the fan, and it does very early on in the film, the suspense just never stops, there are no dull moments. I give this film two fat thumbs way up!
