Will's an idiot. If he wants his kid to be famous, there's a better way to launch him to stardom than ruining a classic. There's no need to remake Karate Kid. Would anyone remake Terminator or Rocky? Well, ok, maybe in 50 years or so, but this is just ridiculous! I'm picturing Bison from the American Street Fighter cartoon saying, "Yesh! Yesh!" How that relates to this, I'll never know.
i always liked Will Smith because he didn't shove his political, socialistic, religious or economic views down my throat (in his movie's, atleast ) He always took advantage of every opportunity that came his way while giving at least a decent performance and every now and again he would pursue a more deeper role that hints towards real acting ability. His movie's are usually more or less fun. I always looked at him getting his family involved in his movies as a quaint and, stand-up thing to do. This, however, is a bit much for me to swallow.
Why not just write an original Karate Kid story? It isn't very hard to write a story using the Karate Kid formula, many movie's have been doing it since the original. Why does Will Smith suddenly need a Marquee name like Karate Kid to back his name? Is his name not big enough to gain interest? No, he has no idea of what he wants to do because he doesnt want to do anything different. It is a cheap way to further his career whilst building his sons'. It's another safe move that will result in another mediocre and most likely, forgettable movie.
I'm a supporter of remakes but Karate Kid is one of the few movie's that still holds up in every way. It is a simple little story that struck a chord with a lot of people. Wasn't an atrocious third installment and a pathetic revamp enough? ****, Mr Myogi would be so pissed.

The original Karate Kid movies mean nothing to me so Will Smith can do with it, and to it, what ever he wants. I only get offended when my personal interests and sensabilities are involved in a remake or rip off.

Sure it will. It will get his name and supposed skills out there.
But, really, what is it about the original Karate Kid movies that are so beyond reproach? It was mediocre acting and tepid story telling. I honestly don't care if the movie gets a green light or if it is shelved in favor of some other big budget remake or rip off. The only thing I can honestly attribute to its legend is a supposedly-worthwhile soundtrack that is putrid, at best. Pat Morita is dead, is that what it is?
