I hated Red State. I'm a huge KS fan, btw. For me:
Clerks
Mallrats
Dogma
Chasing Amy
Clerks 2
Jay and Silent Bob/Zack and Mirri
Didn't care for anything else, including Tusk.

Red State was "enjoyable" but I think it was obvious Smith got himself confused half way through & didn't know whether he was doing black satirical comedy or keep the film serious.

Interesting order. Jersey Girl isn't half bad as people make it out to be, but I think Clerks is a superior film.

I've always loved Jersey Girl. It's an extremely charming film.
I loved George Carlin's rare grandfatherly role.
It's also the big reason that I don't understand why Ben Affleck gets so much hate.

I remember articles saying Affleck had the "classic" looks of great actors of old films but the arrogance of a spoiled upstart. This was around the time he was with J-Lo.
I guess he matured as an actor, gained respect as a director & learned some humility over the years...
Kevin Smith said Affleck did his best performances when he was left alone to create the persona of the character he was playing rather than be told how to act.

I imagine that would be true of most of the great actors out there.

True.
It couldn't been a defensive comment by Smith when asked about Affleck.
Considering they're childhood friends & Smith got to direct him too.
