As sidoius told Yoda "Vader will become more powerful than either of us" He assumed he could control vader no matter how powerful he became beacuse Anakin is naive. What it boils down to is that Sidious wants some one else to do his dirty work for him. He sees anakin as having alot of potential bu mechanical Vader is not what he expected. He was dissapointed as GL has said .. thats why he wanted luke to replace him.

nazgūl-lord,
actually sidious did defeat yoda... that's why yoda said "i've failed, now i must go into exile..."
Sidious needs Vader is like you said... to do his "dirty" work.... but the reason Sidious wants Luke, is because Luke is to become more powerful than Vader, and just like Anakin replaced Dooku.... because he is much younger....
no he didn't.
yoda failed coz he lost his lightsaber and he blast back when he redirected sidious' lightning and coz he lost his lightsaber he couldn't do anything against the arriving clone troopers
actually, if Anakin wasn't with him...he was against him. Palpatine knew Anakin was the strongest Jedi, so he needed him on his side so that Anakin wouldn't end up killing him.
Palpatine DID beat Yoda. Yoda forefitted. Palpatine is powerful not only in his lightsaber skills, but in Force abilities. But he also has something else that Yoda didn't have-- Clone troopers. In the long run, if you add up all of Palpatine's powers and assets (The entire goddamn Empire and another powerful Sith Lord), he is nearly 1000% stronger than Yoda.
As for the topic of this thread, Palpatine didn't need Vader. He was carrying on the tradition of the Sith... but because he had Vader, he might as well have used him as a powerful tool.

So I am a idiot uh? Well, its nice to know what a 12 year old thinks of me.
Sidious didnt beat Yoda you **** face. Sidious and Yoda stalemated. GO back to EP. 1 with Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan facing them two destroyer droids. It was a stalemate, so Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon fled. So I guess by your same logic that means a Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan lost to a couple of destroyer droids .... Jesus you people are ****ing retarded sometimes.
....technically, yoda did not lose to sids, but he got pretty beaten up. after fighting sids he knew he couldn't win, so he ran when he had the chance.
the difference in kenpokarate 2's argument is that qui-gon and obi-wan could have defeated the destroyer droids, yoda's chances of beating sids are not very good, thats the difference. qui and obi left because they didnt want to waste time. yoda left cause he knew he couldn't win.
