Escape from Hoth.....
in ep. 5, when the falcon is making its escape from hoth, there are only 4 tie's chasing it.(unless i counted wrong.) ever wonder why more tie's were'nt deployed? there were 3 star destroyers in pursuit (again, unless i miscounted) and each one had to have had hundreds of tie's aboard. i think if i were the imperial officer in charge of the pursuit, i would have deployed more tie's.

Itīs a balance thing...
You need to deploy enough fighters to make it exciting but not enough to make their escape believable. It's a movie thing, the good guys get away the bad guys act dumb. Like giving a speech long enough for the hero to eventualy escape. Didn't you see "Last Action Hero"? Itīs all there...

YEah, that's the magiuc movie quality again! I mean, by any logic there should have been about 100 squadrons of TIEs on the Death Star... and that is being conservative!
