"Freddy Krueger is getting a wakeup call.
Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form have been set by New Line to relaunch the movie series centered on the iconic killer, who haunts the dreams of teenagers and kills them in their sleep.
The trio will create a new franchise based on Wes Craven’s 1984 film “A Nightmare on Elm Street.”
Originally played by Robert Englund, the Krueger character haunted nine films and two TV series in what was New Line’s most lucrative franchise until “The Lord of the Rings.”
Deal comes as Bay, Fuller and Form ready an early May start for “Friday the 13th,” New Line’s relaunch of another iconic baddie, Jason Voorhees. Marcus Nispel will direct from a script by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift (“Freddy vs. Jason”).
Both franchises will be given a complete overhaul, just as Platinum Dunes did with the Nispel-directed “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.” New Line won’t hire a writer on “Nightmare” until the writers strike ends.
At Rogue Pictures, the Platinum Dunes team is prepping an exorcism thriller to be directed by David Goyer and a “Near Dark” remake to be directed by Samuel Bayer. Bay, Fuller and Form are also developing a Universal remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds,” with Martin Campbell directing Naomi Watts."
Actually, I have heard little of new Nightmare movies...but that may be just because it has been so long since the last Nightmare movie (not counting Freddy vs. Jason), that I just assumed they were done.
No, he gave us information about who was involved and what was going on, you just said "they're making a new one, johnny depp was in the first one.
Can't hurt to give them a new go, they became more about the cheesey lines for freddy than the horror. Same with Jason, although i still stand by Jason X being the best overall sequel.

The Jason movies became as ridiculous as the Freddie ones, but some of them were miles better than others, i think it was Friday 6 (involving the psychic girl), that was a brilliant movie let down by a terrible, terrible ending (even for Jason movies).
And i've said it a few times, the liquid nitrogen head dunk in Jason X was one of the coolest deaths the horror movie world has given us in many years.

Friday the 13th part 9 was worse than Jason X...really, really hated part 9, was sooo dumb...the ending where Jason gets his mask pulled into the ground was cool though
hehehe I remember part 9...Jason goes to hell. Definately not one of movies happiest times!
And Freddy did get pretty rediculous...but for some reason, I never got tired of the Nightmare's, although what bugged me was that it was always the girl who killed him.
There were several hints he was homsexual. The fact that he screamed like a girl, he snuck out and went to a gay bar, and instead of sleeping with his girlfriend he slept in the guys room wearing the tighty whities. That dude was gayer than Elton John.
