because the word Llama was invented in south america, in Chile if Im not wrong, and in spanish it's pronunced "yama" and as many of u know in spanish LL = Y, hope its clear 4 ya

Because its in the Spanish alphabet. there is the L and there is a ll. Like A4E said the double 'l' creates a Y sound.

Look, South america and Spain have different forms to make the Y sound. Spain's sound for the Y is just like USA's. Now, S. America makes a sound like "sh" for the Y

I lived in south america for about 6 years u freak and LL its pronunced like Y in yes, and in spain its the same thing and in both s. a. and in spain "y" can also be used like y in "day"

actually XIA Lama isn't a incorrect spelling Lama's originate from North America and there are 4 different 'breads' with different spellings and Llama is just the most common one.
