Older or Younger Actor for Bond

Brosnan was like 41 when he took the role. Dalton was also 41. Connery always appeared older than he really was. Roger Moore always appeared younger than he really was. Who knows about Lazenby. But my point is, we don't need a hip, 20-something Bond. We need an older Bond. Bond is a man about that age, he's not young. In the books, you never think of James Bond as fresh out of college, he's written like a man in his early 40's. We don't need somebody who is going to be carded when he orders his vodka martini, shaken, not stirred. We need somebody who looks like he belongs in those casinos. We need a Bond who is an equal to his foes, not some kid nipping at the heals of his enemies. The only actor that I know of as of now that I would be happy with is Clive Owen. He's cool, plus, he's British. Now I know Lazenby and Brosnan aren't British, but I just like the idea of a British playing a British. I wish the Broccoli producers that they had better not screw this up.

I'm also fine with an actor doing only 4 films. Personally, I think it gets boring watching the same actor over and over again. The only reason Connery did such a spectacular job is because he started the role. So if you can find someone who can do something like reinvent the Bond series, you might have someone worth making more than 4. But for me, I think 4 is enough, or maybe 5. I fully enjoyed Brosnan, but he is getting old and I wish he could do at least one more.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On why Pierce Brosnan thinks he would have regretted winning the James Bond role in 1986: "It's a role better suited to someone who is in his 40s, old enough to have the confidence and the sophistication and strength to be able to stand there and just let the moment sit. Bond is a man with the greatest of confidence. And playing that takes practice. In 1986, I think I was 33 or something like that, and I still looked like a baby. Finally, I'm growing into this face of mine. That takes time."

Well , the James Bond character has been around for a long time so I would want an older actor to play him. But then again, maybe a younger actor would occupy the role for the next few sequels. I'm not making much sense am I?

Bond in the books is described as 40+ and it would be silly to see 20 bond movies with actors around that age but then suddenly the next one features someone like Bloom blink

Orlando Bloom is WAY too pretty-boy to be James Bond, I can't see him kicking the shit out of terrorists.

"They want to move away from the traditional image of James Bond - the older, suave gentleman - and believe a younger, trendier actor will attract friends. "

No, no, no....James Bond is all about the "older suave gentleman"...It wouldn't make sense to have this high-ranking intelligence agent be a young guy. Bloom would ruin the franchise if he was Bond.

IOAN GRUFFUD wants to play JAMES BOND in 10 years time - but only after CLIVE OWEN gets his chance to portray the superspy.

The pair from "King Arthur" have both been touted as possible replacements when PIERCE BROSNAN eventually hangs up his 007 tuxedo - but Gruffud insists he is currently not old enough to play Bond.

The 30-year-old HORNBLOWER star says, "I'd love to play Bond, absolutely love to, but I think I'm 10 years too young to play him at the moment.

"Clive can do two or three and then..."

Connery was 32 when he did Dr. No - but always appeared older. I think being 41 will be ok for 4 movies. I agree, no hip youngster Bonds like Bloom.

yeah, cause 4 movies easily mean you're tied down for more than 10 years so that's the best age you can get I think

as long as the actor is between 30 and 40 when he does his first one, i think we'll be fine... of course, you must also hope that we won't see anymore of this 6 years between films (LTK to GE), 4/5 years between films (Bond 21 situation) crap... we need a new film every 2-3 years... even the 3-year wait for DAD was too long... especially given the piece of crap they finally came up with at the end of it all...

so... if he's, say, 34 when he starts... one every 2 years... he's got a good 7 to 10 films in him, at least... starting at 34 year old, 9 films would make him 50 years old, and Moore was 58 when he did his last one, so you get the idea...

this is all assuming they get someone good, though... not one of these pretty-boy pansies that can't act (a la most of the people who have been suggested in the "rumors" about the new Bond)...
