Lois Maxwell - The Original Miss Moneypenny - Passes Away ...

http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/showbiz...dies-at-80.html

Hey guys. No one had said anything about this on the Bond forum yet, and so I thought I'd mention it. It was announced today that Lois Maxwell, the actress who played Miss Moneypenny for over 23 years, has sadly died. She appeared in every single one of the first 14 Bond films (from 1962's "Dr. No" right up to 1985's "A View To A Kill"), and so had the pleasure of acting opposite three James Bonds - Sean Connery, George Lazenby, and finally Roger Moore.

I thought it would be nice to open a thread on this topic in order to create a 'forum' where people can talk about her portrayal of Miss Moneypenny. For me, at least - much like Sean Connery - no matter how good any of her successors have been, to my mind she will probably always be both the original, and the best. After playing the character in all those Bond films (however brief her appearances may have been), she is bound to have left a lasting impression in the minds of Bond fans.

Sigh ... first Desmond Llewellyn (Q), and now Lois Maxwell; I hope that we will not be losing any more Bond veterans any time soon.

Never even saw this. I always liked her more than the one in the Brosnan films.

RIP Miss. Moneypenny

I guess I can kinda understand why, though - some people, in these situations, simply don't have anything to add. But thank *you* for replying to my post, anyway (and Darth Martin) smile .

this should be an omen to hollywood from the man upstairs trying to tell us since the original cast members of the 007 series have passed on,STOP MAKING NEW JAMES BOND FILMS ALREADY!!!! there comes a point where it becomes redicules to keep on making these films.Q has passed on and now moneypenny has.stop it with these new james bond films already. mad Moneypenny was smart to leave when she did.after Roger Moore gave his swan song with A View to a kill thats when the 007 franchise SHOULD have ended.Moneypenny was a smart lady. I give her props for knowing that it was the proper time to leave when she did.You were one smart lady moneypenny.too bad hollywood isnt as smart as you were. mad

So then ... not a fan of "Casino Royale", I take it stick out tongue ?

In all seriousness, you and I both know how the system works - Hollywood will only ever stop making Bond films when they stop making money. However, even from a quality control point of view, I strongly believe that stopping the Bond franchise now would be a massive mistake - IMHO, at least, "Casino Royale" was not only an excellent film (and easily the best Bond flick since "Goldeneye"), but also gave the series a much needed kick after the lacklustre "Die Another Day"; now, for the first time in years, the series has both an exciting new direction, and an actor in the lead role who has been almost universally praised - all in all, people are excited about 007 again. There may come a point one day when it does become, in your words, ridiculous to keep on making these films - but I don't think the franchise has reached it yet; not a chance.

Also, I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that Lois Maxwell didn't leave when she did purely by choice; and even if she did, they would have recast her anyway before the next film as she was becoming a bit old for the part - she might have suited Roger Moore's older 007, but can you imagine her playing off against younger Bonds like Dalton and Brosnan?

And I'm afraid I'm also gonna have to disagree with you that the Bond franchise should have specifically ended with "AVTOK"; I mean, c'mon - that film is widely regarded as one of (if not THE) worst Bond movie in the entire franchise! And think of the brilliant films that came after it, like "License To Kill", "Goldeneye", and the aforementioned "Casino Royale". And if your reasoning is that the series should've ended there because that was when Lois Maxwell left, then why don't you think they should've stopped it after "Moonraker", following Bernard Lee's death (the original M)?

I have to disagree here. The Brosnan/Bond films are some of my favourites of the series, GoldenEye being my #1.

Im quite serious. TMWTGG is easily one of the best Bond films - certainly above Casino Royale.

Don't get me wrong, I very much respect your opinion (both of you) ... but Rampant's roll eyes (sarcastic) smily confused me a bit; after all - with the greatest of respect - both of you are kind of in the minority when you say that "TMWTGG" is better than films like "Casino Royale".

oh okay no problem.Maybe HERE at this site we are. Here at this site the people that like Casino Royale the best are mostly teenagers and in their early 20's,this site is dominated by teenagers.Thats why I made My Pierce Brosnan thread because this teenage dominated site, everybody is in love with Pierce Brosnan it seems and Casino Royale as the best Bond movie. You go to the most popular James Bond sites though around on the net though and thats not the case because they are made up by posters that go back as far as the days of being old enough to go to the theaters to see the Sean Connery James Bond movies. Those sites I have never made a thread about Brosnan because I find people agree with me for the most part there. Its just here at this site they dont because again, thats mostly because of the age group. big grin

But again - with the greatest of respect - I'm fairly certain that it's not just people at the KMC who feel, for one thing, that "CR" is better than "TMWTGG" (leaving the Brosnan issue aside). If you check most big, reputable movie review sites (like IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes) then you'll find that "CR" consistently scores much higher than "TMWTGG" (indeed, on the former site, "CR" is listed as one of the top 250 movies of all time). And I'm pretty sure that the critics in question *aren't* just "teenagers and [people] in their early 20's".
