There'll obviously be a sequel with the way it ended. I don't want to spoil the game for anyone but to those who did beat it, like I did last night, would you buy pt. 2, if and when it comes out, especially after the way it ended.
Me. I'm still thinking about it. Cause i don't know if I was done right or wrong by this game and it's ending.

I do believe that I'm the only that wasn't really impressed with it. Sold it back after three days of playing it. It's basically a supped up version of GTA. In other words it's bland and hopelessly repetitive.
I enjoyed the game, but they need to change the respect system. You should be able to more than one mission everytime your respect goes up, constantly forcing you out of the story is really annoying.
There were a few times I just stopped playing because I didnt feel like getting my respect up.
Anyone else excited for this? I think they are promoting this game perfectly, as the over the top alternative to GTA's newfound seriousness. A lot of people were put off by GTA's tone once the main story was over, because there was nothing left to do really. I dont think this game will get the high 9 scores GTA did, mostly because of technical issues, because you cant argue that part of GTA. But from what I have seen it will get high 8's and low 9's. The reviews I have seen have just basically said "its fun". Its over the top and stupid, it isnt as pretty, but the game is fun, the story is good and funny.
I started playing the first game over the weekend, to get used to it again for the new one.
I finally got around to playing last night, and immediately I loved the 180 degree shift in tone when compared to GTA4. The pacing is so much better than GTA, the first 3 hours of GTA is slow escort missions, but SR2 starts with a pretty kickass jailbreak. I only played for a couple hours, but Im really enjoying it. The very deep customization from the first game has just gotten exponentially bigger.
It came out already..just found out moments ago. Thought it wasn't due for a while.
And the last time i played pt1 was (exactly) 2 years ago to the month, according to this thread.
"Tfu" was the last game i got and i already beat it and i'm really looking for something new to play but i just deeply feel that "SR2" won't give me the satisfaction i get from playing "GTA4". (still didn' beat it; taking my sweet time). Or it won't make me feel anything i haven't already felt playing "GTA", at least.
I'll still check "SR2" out via trailers, screenshots, reviews,..or a demo or something.

After reading the "sr2" wiki article this is what i like about the game.
Saints Row 2 has no gameplay structure similar to Saints Row.
After Saints Row was produced and work begun on Saints Row 2, the streaming engine was completely rewritten. Because of this, new air-based vehicle types and online co-operative play have been made possible, along with many new major improvements to provide a smooth, interactive world, with significant decreases in terms of glitches, bugs and pop ins.
Stilwater in Saints Row 2 has seen heavy expansion since the original game. Developers announced the city has been entirely redeveloped, every neighborhood has been touched up in one way or another
it is said they spent well over three-hundred million dollars redeveloping Stilwater, turning the crime-ridden city into an 'urban utopia'.
After Saints Row was developed, the game's engine was completely re-tooled, allowing noticable graphical improvements. Textures and dynamics have been reworked so the city looks more realistic. Night-time lighting and shadowing have been dramatically improved, and explosions and visual effects are also noticeably better. The game will also include additional weather effects. Rain and wind have dramatic effects on the landscape, notably altering sea tides and roads.
AI has also undergone major improvements [6]. NPCs will undertake more realistic actions
The player can customize the character's appearance even further.
Clothing and apparel customization has also been modified to become more in-depth. The player is given a wide variety of clothing to wear. Customizing clothes gives the player more choice over how they wear their clothes, with additional coloring and layout designs. Also, there is a broader range of tattoos, which can now be applied to the face, and jewelry.
Crib and gang customization have been introduced as new features in Saints Row 2. The player can customize the 3rd Street Saints and the nine cribs they can dwell in.
in Saints Row 2, the player can take human shields which can be used as cover in outdoor areas. When the player no longer needs the hostage, they can either kill the hostage, or push them away. Also, finishers are introduced in Saints Row 2. If three hits are dealt with the same button on an enemy, the player performs a quick finishing move.
Dual-wielding has been introduced on submachine guns and handguns. Some new weapons in Saints Row 2 are chainsaws, sledgehammers, flamethrowers, katanas, stun guns and shock pads. Satchel charges are introduced, and can stick to walls, vehicles and even people [9] The player can now pick up and use objects from the environment as melee weapons such as garden gnomes and cement blocks.[10] Additionally, over half a dozen weapons can be unlocked throughout the game, but have not been announced yet.
A fully 3D survival horror game can be played at arcades and television across the city. The game, titled Zombie Uprising
several new vehicle types have been introduced in Saints Row 2. The player is given the option of driving up to five different motorcycles, each with unique designs and benefits. These bikes, like most cars, can be equipped with Nitrous Oxide, giving the vehicle a temporary boost. Additionally, quad bikes and monster trucks can be driven through the city. In addition to the new land-based vehicles, a new streaming system has seen the addition of boats and jet skis as water-based vehicles, Also, planes and helicopters can be flown around the city, with planes equipped with parachutes
as the player earns more respect, they can buy shops. Buying an entire chain of departments will mean that the protagonist’s face appears on in-game billboard advertisements.
And Tera Patrick’s tied to it..

I'm anxious to play this game. I thought the first game had a lot of potential that was never truly realized. Considering, however, that it was the only game to blatantly challenge GTA i thought it was a very good game. It wasn't the GTA killer by any means but it did do some things better than GTA. I can't help but compare the first Saints row to GTA because it tried to be another GTA and i don't care how many times they say they weren't.
Saints Row 2, however, sounds like they have finally figured out exactly what direction they want to go with the series and will be establishing a game experience entirely separate from GTA. After being very disappointed with GTA4 and hearing that Saints Row 2 is offering everything that i wanted in GTA4, i can't wait to play.

Ok I've never played SR 1 but Im considering getting SR 2. As far as gameplay, Im assuming its just like GTA? Will I understand the game (storywise) if I buy the second one without playing the first?
have to be honest, i've enjoyed this a lot more than gta4. gta is good dont get me wrong, but i became so bored of it. multiplayer seemed the only good thing and that was only in free roam.... saints row 2 though... everything is available to you and a friend. missions and activities. wow. truly a benchmark as regards to multiplayer co-op. yes the humour can get annoying as its a little childish, and in some respects repetive it is. but in another way it isnt.
better than gta4 for me. not as polished but more fun. which for me, is the most important thing for a videogame to be.
Finally got around to beating this just now, I ****ing loved it. I was waiting for the shocker ending just like the original, but was pleasantly surprised the game ended cleanly. There are still a lot of things open for the next game which is smart, and I cannot wait to get some solid info on it.
Yeah, i think parody is a good analogy even though they feel like two different games. Where GTA4 lacked whimsy Saints Row lacked realism.
I know im late in answering this but i was disappointed with GTA 4 for many different reasons. They improved on a lot, graphics, combat mechanics and the physics. However, it felt like they forgot to include the fun. One of the best aspects of GTA has always been the driving. Taking corners at 100mph may not be realistic but it was a lot of fun. The learning curve for the new driving physics and controls was a bit steep, maybe to steep for a GTA game. I forgive this though because they put a lot of work into retooling the driving mechanics and even though it felt more like simulation the driving worked, it just wasnt as fun. This was just a small gripe for me, though.
My biggest problems with the game was the lack of content and the wanted system. The new wanted system nearly ruined the entire game for me. Instead of making the police AI more intelligent they just made it a nuisance to getaway. Before, in previous GTA games if i had heat i could escape the polices line of vision (unless i had 4-5 stars) and keep out of their site for a period of time until my wanted level decreased. In GTA 4 you have to escape a a specific sized radius where the size is dependent on the severity of your crime. This would have been ok if i could simply leave that area and hide out but no, if you leave the radius and a cop passes you on radar but is not within visible range, the radius repositions itself. This made escaping the police an unecessary nuisance which kept me from going on crime spree's. you're telling me that if i simply bump a car in traffic that i have to speed across the city and refrain from being seen by any cop? Why can't i just jump out of the car and hide out in a building, trash can or ally way? With a new city that allows you to explore thousands of nooks and crannies it seems like they wasted an opportunity from allowing the gamer to take cover in hidden area's in the city to drop wanted levels.
My other biggest complaint was the lack of things to do. In San Andrea's i initiate dozens of mini-game quests, Work out and change my appearance, Take over the city with my gang, burglarize houses, gamble at the casino's etc... In GTA 4 i could surf the net, go bowling or play darts. Shit, you ccan't even gamble when playing pool or darts. This may be shallow, but i also missed the gore. Again, my biggest problem was the wanted system though. It just wasn't nearly as fun to go on a crime spree. Also, the music was garbage in this game, utter garbage.

Just to agree with rage, the wanted system sucked the fun out of this game for me once I had completed the storyline. There was very little to do and to be honest, stealing cars and going on chases etc became for too much of a hassle with too much of a predicable outcome.
It says a lot when my favourite car and form of transport for the entire game has been listed as "Roman's Taxi" simply because its free and I don't have to spend 20 mins loosing the damned cops trashing up the car I just stole in the process. To the point that I was glad I got the Roman ending as I could keep using the Taxi's after the game was complete. Just my opinion, but I was dissapointed a little in GTA IV and its the first time I've been really hyped for a GTA game and its fallen a little flat.
