So it appears that there will be no melee weapons or firearms in the next Fable game. Personally this strikes me as a bad idea. what does everyone else think?

People still play the Fable games? I mean, maybe 2 years after the fact when they're down to $15 or so (1 dollar per hour of game time, from what I hear), but at release?
first one is one of the best Rpg's i've played. The second two have incredible atmospheres and do offer some interesting gameplay elements such as how you interact with the world and people that populate it. The stories are also pretty compelling but even though the combat is very accessible and at times fun it's still to empty to make the games trully memorable.

Whaaat? That sucks. Those were my main tactics. This is a bad idea. I loved using the gun from far away and then using a sword when enemies got close. I only used magic when there were alot enemies close range.
Fable I: Great game. Could have been better with about 8 more months of development.
Fable II: Excellent game. I loved the gamepla mechanics, graphics, etc. How you leveled was wonderful. It could have used about 6-8 more months of development as far as character interactions and side quests go.
Fable III: I hated the level up system. Story was okay, not great. Graphics were on par or better than II. It just wasn't doing it for me. I liked how they vastly improved the building management systems. That was A. They could have gotten an A+ if they made it more accessible. The zooming back and forth to your "hideout" was also a bit lame. Decent game..not on par with the previous, but did have some good improvements.
I played the first (even the "extended" version) and was basically like "meh." It was incredibly short, not terribly nuanced in terms of character development or story, and didn't really stand out to me in any way. If that was "great" and warranted sequels that may or may not live up to the original, count me out. I'm legitimately surprised this series has continued to thrive, I never hear a lot of glowing buzz around it.
Well the melee combat in Fable was always underpowered, especially in Fable 3 when it was useless and actually damaging for your character to specialise in.
Ironically the melee in Fable 1 was the best implimented iirc. If they simply refined that it wouldn't be a problem.
I wouldn't write the game off because of this though. This could be really great, and allow them to put some serious thought and refinement behind into the magic system.
It was unless you had a good weapon that had decent speed.
The katana's were nice...especially that one you get from that one fallen hero after finishing a lengthy cave sequence about 2/3 into the game. I used that weapon for the longest time before I got that other super duper sword.
Anyway...remembering Fable I and all of that good stuff makes me think of how screwed up fable III was. It could have been so much better.
